Well, I took the advice from a post earlier today and we got one. I took my 12 yo son out for the afternoon. His baseball schedule precludes him from getting out much. We hiked up a canyon with a couple big meadows & a creek in it. There was lots of bear scat, from a bear I’d love to see! We got...
I have been unable to get my 12 year old out for spring bear this year save for one time due to his baseball schedule. I have multiple spots I bear hunt so I’m not looking for advice on a spot per se. I have this weekend to get him out. I haven’t been out in 3 wks so I’m not sure of bear...
I’ve killed most of my elk with a 270. I use factory ammo. My 11 yo scrawny son shot his deer with it this fall, he has no complaints of the recoil. Shot his first deer with a 7x57. He’s already said he’ll be using the 270 on future hunts.
I grew up with labs & the first 2 dogs my wife and I owned were labs. We bought a WPG 2 years ago. He is most certainly a different dog than a lab. His personality is more “intense & in tune” with me. He will stare at me where as labs glance at me. He’s pretty quiet in the house. Our labs would...
I shot a cow a couple years ago with a marlin guide gun shooting buffalo bore 350 gr bullet, i believe it’s style 8c. Shot her at about 50-60 yds, broadside, hit just behind front leg. Hit ribs on entrance & exit. Full pass through, into a tree behind her. She went maybe 25 yds. I know not...
I have a 2015 dodge 3/4 ton pickup, states no chains on the fronts. Dealer where I got it is a friend. I asked him about it when I bought it. Bought it in April of 2015. He took me back to the shop, up on the lift is a newish dodge pickup with wires hanging from the front end, broken suspension...
I have a tikka in 300 wm and weatherby vanguard in 257 weatherby. I like both in different ways. I like how light the tikka is, I didn’t like the stock so I replaced it. The weatherby is heavier for sure. Both shoot sub moa. I did add a brake to the tikka also. My 11 yo son and wife shoot both...
I’ve found draping them over the tire is hands down the easiest way to get chains on. One end should barely be on the ground, drive forward or backwards a little bit and connect them. Could be just me buts that’s the easiest way I’ve found when it’s dark and 12” snow
Took my wife & son out elk hunting last night. Wife has a damage hunt tag. We drove around in the side by side and had success. It was a great evening with them. Things I learned last night:
1) making snow angels while elk hunting is perfectly acceptable
2) my son goes from laughing, hollering...
I put that stock on my Tikka 300 mag. It added a little weight & subjectively recoil seems somewhat improved. It’s still a light weight 300 so it will kick. I like the stock, the action just dropped in. The stock is well textured to me & helps a good amount when the stock gets wet
