I’m with MTGomer, preferring SG. Never tried a kifaru. Tried multiple mystery ranch packs. I’m 6’4” & 210 lbs. mystery ranch makes good packs. They’re heavy, lots of pockets & bells & whistles. SG are more stripped down, few pockets, bells or whistles. My SG compresses very well for a day pack...
I’ve gotten out scouting a few times so far. From mid August on I’ll be scouting more frequently. I’ve seen sheep every time, rams all but once. Seems no rhyme or reason to where I’m seeing them. Sometimes high, sometimes low. Only consistent thing is always near steep hills. I haven’t found a...
I don’t have the regs in front of me right now. The Beartooths, east of big timber used to have a quota I believe. This may or may not be the case anymore. There’s better bear hunting than the Beartooths offer.
I’m looking for a good quality spotting scope. It will be for backcountry hunting so I don’t want a big one. I’d be willing to spend $7-800ish. Let me know if you’re parting with one. I’m not settled on a brand, it will just depend on the scope. Thanks very much
SteveE, season closes October 31 in the unit so I’m guessing that’s the very start of the rut. I’m certain I will try my darndest to greatly over complicate things, seems to be what I do at times
I seriously know very little of sheep. My friends have told the size of sheep to expect and such. Problem is I wouldn’t know a 170 sheep from a 180 sheep if they were standing beside each other. Can anyone recommend a good book with pics to learn to judge sheep. I’m not looking for a book with...
After years of donations to MT FWP I drew the tag I was sure would never come. I am fortunate I’m familiar with the area from years of elk hunting there. I’m also fortunate to know folks that are very knowledgeable of the sheep there. It’s only a 45 minute drive from home. My oldest son is 12 &...
I’m sure there’s some folks fortunate enough to draw that would be happy to share camp & hunt with Randy(include myself here). Im guessing Randy has very little difficulty filling his schedule with hunts as it is. These tags are for all intents and purposes once in a life time. I never dreamt of...
I have a pair and like them quite a bit. I had a pair of lowas I liked, until the water proof liner died in less than 2 years. The Crispi seem every bit as high quality as the lowas(superior to if water proofing holds up). They are a rigid boot for sure. FWIW it seems the sizing is similar to...
In the past couple years I’ve had a muzzle brake put on 2 guns. I apologize, I can’t recall exactly which one off hand but the same for both guns. Both guns were $230 for the brake, threading the barrel & installation. Had them put on a .300 win mag & 257 weatherby so my wife & kids could shoot...
Thanks again for input on the hide. I rolled it up after folding in half lengthwise flesh side to flesh side. Threw it in the freezer Saturday morning after getting it checked. Took it to taxidermist this morning & he said I did it the right way.
Thanks much for the input on the hide guys! The pics were moments before a rather heavy rain and mere minutes before my dunking. By the time I went wading in the creek I was wet enough to barely notice aside from water sloshing in my boots.
