    Gun for son

My oldest son is 15, he was scrawny & small. In MT kids can hunt deer at 10 & 11, everything at 12. I had him use my 7x57 at 10 & 11. He had no problem using it. At 12 he proclaimed my 270 as his. He’d grown enough he was able to handle it fine & has grown lots. I did have him shoot my 257...

Hornady ELX - No Good for Hunting Elk???

I’ve shot a few elk with 200gr eldx from a 300 mag. They are not as tough as an accubond & won’t retain the weight if that’s what you’re after. However, all elk died quickly so it did its job. Some were pass throughs some weren’t. If you’re after a bullet that retains 90% of weight then it’s the...

    Family Yellowstone Camping Suggestions?

We’ve stayed at Yellowstone grizzly rv park in west Yellowstone & the koa. Prefer the one in west Yellowstone but both are nice. Thoroughly enjoy every trip.

    Need a new spotting scope

Kowa 774 could be found with some searching at that price. It’s not much larger, nor heavier than the 664 model.

    Found: 1 Arrow

Several years ago I was cutting firewood. I’d cut a tree down & was cutting pieces to length. Saw ran out of gas. When I came back to the tree I noticed a rusty discoloration in it. I grabbed a flat head screwdriver & dug at it, was something metal. I dug out an OLD 3 blade broadhead. The back...

    Ram 2500 - 5.7L Hemi vs 6.4L

I have the 6.4 in a 2015. It tows our 9k lb 5th wheel no problem, 8-10mpg when doing so. Gets 15-16mpg on highway not towing, 13ish mpg in town. I’ve no idea how the other engine performs. I wanted it to tow a 5th wheel so I wanted the bigger engine.

    Winter tent recommendations?

I have an alaknak 12x12. I can set it up fully in 30-40 minutes. With the wood stove going it will cook you out. It’s obviously for pickup camping. It serves my needs well. Without stove in it 3 cots no problem. With stove only getting 2.

    new ram 2500

That’s been my experience. This is my third pickup. First two were 1/2 tons, their tranny went 115k

    new ram 2500

I have a 2015 2500 with the 6.4l gas engine. The truck does well for its intended purpose, tows very well. Unfortunately, just hit 125k miles & I’ll be getting a rebuilt transmission. I tow a fair amount, am a stickler for maintenance. I’ve done ball joints, thermostat was under warranty. I was...

Travel Trailer Size and Road Limitations

I had a 1/2 ton Chevy with the 31’ bumper pull that weighed 6500lbs, it REALLY struggled to pull that trailer. I now have a 3/4 dodge 2500 gas not diesel, mileage sucks. It pulls an 8000lb trailer like it’s not even there at times. The bumper pull would whip the pickup around pretty good in...

Travel Trailer Size and Road Limitations

It was total length from end of bumper to end of hitch. I’m 6’4, my brother is 6’5” so we take up above average real estate. Do dual batteries. You can do solar charging of batteries or use a generator. I opt for generator. In the fall your batteries won’t last as long between charges, due to...

Travel Trailer Size and Road Limitations

If I were to go back to a 24’ I’d definitely want a slide for that lil bit of room

Travel Trailer Size and Road Limitations

We started with a 24ft bumper pull, no slides. I usually hunt with my brother. It got cramped after a few days. I got that thing a few places it surely wasn’t designed to go. The 31’ bumper pull with a slide was really nice space wise but was more difficult to maneuver for sure. I was still able...

Travel Trailer Size and Road Limitations

I’ve had a 31 ft bumper pull & presently have a 30 ft 5th wheel. I prefer the 5th wheel for 2 reasons: handles better in crosswinds & more maneuverable. I can get that length close enough to areas I want to recreate without difficulties. Four season camper is sound advice. I’ve traveled a good...
