If you simply want to elk hunting go OTC Colorado or general MT. Don't worry about points. That being said, be prepared to get addicted and buy points in some states. I definitely recommend finding an every year or two type of place and then a state or two where you want to hunt in 5-10 years...
Great job Gerald! Touching film for sure. A lot of great memories shown. I really enjoyed the parts with your kids and their excitement. You're raising them right! Keep up the good work. Can't wait for the next one!
It all depends on your foot. I could be given a pair of the $2,000 custom boots and if they were narrow then it won't work out. I prefer to order boots in wide. I actually really like my Keen's when I first started out West and they were not expensive but they aren't super durable.
Best advice...
I'd post different places (Hunt Talk, Facebook groups, etc) looking for hunting partners if you don't want to hunt solo or go to some of the local hunting networking events.
Nevermind, I forgot you have to buy the habitat stamp ever to apply so I already purchased 2017. It appears they won't let you buy the license without the stamp so one is not allowed to make that mistake. I just don't want to lose my points!
Now I'm confused. I just bought points this year. I bought the 2017 Fishing license and a 2018 Habitat Stamp. Did I do this wrong? Can someone confirm?
Yeah I am aiming more at the random than trying to reach max points. I would expect to be 65 before I reach max points in certain states and hopefully healthy. I am thinking more about the demographics of people with points. I am not sure if that data exists but the NPR article got me think...
First off, do not be dissuaded by the comments above. If you want to bighorn sheep hunt you will have to beat some bad odds but it is doable and it starts by giving yourself the highest chance possible. I see people complain they have been applying for a tag for 30 years and never draw but they...
That does sound like a good opportunity for recruitment. What would the downside be? How do you go about propose ideas like that? At a high level I think having an area just for new hunters allows veteran hunters to encourage people to start hunting without the risk of "Giving up their spot".
That's what I'm talking about!! We have to be selfless if we want our values and traditions to reach people and continue on. I think kids deserve tags over adults all day. Those are key years in a life that impact who you are. I'd give up a tag every year if it meant a new kid became a hunter...
I have a few thoughts and I am curious what everyone thinks.
1. There are several barriers to entry that when combined contribute to the overall decrease in the percentage of the population that goes hunting. Access as Randy pointed out can be argued and viewed from many different angles but...
