You bring up excellent points. I’ve contemplated the one gun that is versatile. I’ve seen a .270 do it all too. My plan was more of the two gun plan and not trying pin myself down to one that does it all. I see benefits of both. Just when I think I have it narrowed down... ha. Great input!
Yeah I understand what you are saying about the 6.5 craze. If I hadn’t seen it drop about 5 deer over the last two seasons with little to no tracking I wouldn’t be as convinced to jump on the bandwagon. The more research I do I’m leaning towards the 7-08 because the Tikka SuperLite comes in a...
I have narrowed down my search for a lightweight backcountry rifle and have chosen a Tikka but I am looking at two different routes both in 6.5 CM. The Superlite is 5.9 lbs vs the Lite which is 6.3 lbs due to the fluting on the SL. Both are 24.3" barrels. I'm either going to get the Superlite or...
Cool to hear that. We have some good films but this year we are dropping daily videos from 5 separate hunts in Alaska (2 sheep, 2 caribou and one bear) and then deer hunts in Wyoming and Montana. Going to be an awesome year of content coming out! Thanks for the sub, we appreciate everyone's support.
I think most people trust the gov't too much so if there is a season they feel there is enough elk to support it and don't think about the long term impacts. The weekend hunter isn't as in tune as HTers. I haven't hunted MT in a few years, are the post season surveys required? I hate seeing...
Welcome! I'd join your local BHA chapter too for networking purposes for more info on local opportunities. The sika deer hunting is very intriguing. Definitely listen to the MeatEater podcast about it. I can't relate to your struggle of living out East. I told my wife we will never live East of...
I made a video explaining my layering system and the purpose of each layer. A fundamental understanding for staying comfortable while hunting that I feel some people never hear about. Lots of marketing out there that confuses people about the basics with their claims to do everything with one...
I think more dignity leaks out if their not even real crocs but rather from Walmart hahaha. Function over fashion is my motto.
I like to refer to them as “Frocs”. I’m liking your idea. I think I might splurge and get another pair for around the house.
I found these camp shoes a couple years ago. I expected for them to fall apart quickly based on the price but instead they have been awesome. Used them a ton and crossed some large creeks with them with no problems. Ultralight + cheap + durable = awesome.
Just want to pass on this find for...
Thanks Matt! Love some good comfort items. My favorite is the sleeping bag liner. It's like having flannel sheets. I would never go without.
Definitely won't leave without trekking poles and gaiters now that I have used them. An ever evolving process to find what you like!
