Nevada
One deer per year in the draw. No antlerless hunts will be offered in 2024, including juniors. Nevada's deer herd is hurting and in serious trouble.
You can buy as many landowner tags as you want, but they go from $5,000 - $20,000+.
I haven't hunt POW specifically before, but Calder Mountain Lodge is situated on the north end of POW. They run a good operation and would keep you under that $5k mark for total cost without the hassle of a lot of the logistics.
As @Big Fin has talked about many times, a structured application/tag plan is very important for the traveling hunter. I usually get lucky once a year in a draw, if not more, and can always hunt spring bear in Idaho and fall bear in California. Add in waterfowl and I'm never looking for a...
Good thing Nevada is starting a moose hunt this year
I started a brokerage account for "hunting money". Moose, caribou, dall sheep, duck club membership, etc. Just have to keep adding to the pot and be patient.
Staggering to see. Our deer in Nevada number around 60,000 as of 2023 population estimate. The same number of horses and burros in the state (that's probably a conservative number). At this point I'd rather hunt bears in California than hunt anything but a great deer season in Nevada. I hope...
Also not a big fan of this bill. That area in Palomino Valley and the Pah Rah range is not only good habitat for resident animals, but a migration corridor.
This bill is rearing it's ugly head again. Will see how far it gets.
Last winter was really hard on the deer populations, especially around the Rubies and other herds that migrate long distances. Lot's of deer were trapped and starved to death. Deer have been on the decline in Nevada since the 80s and last year was a hard kick in the nuts.
Feral horses and...
As a resident I think it's worthwhile if a group of buddies puts in for everything every year. Someone will get lucky eventually, and someone else after that. Last year I had zero points for pronghorn and drew a rifle tag that had a 0.44% chance of drawing. Drawn a deer tag with less than 1%...
I've used 5's in my 12, 20, and now 28ga. You won't be disappointed. Ducks, honkers, and now a swan. Pick your shots and you wont be disappointed. I probably wont hunt with anything but the 28ga unless it's spring snows or straight honker hunts with lots of shooters.
