    Montana Non-Resident Elk hunting Questions

Does Montana average the preference points when applying as a group? I know they average bonus points for the LE tags but I can’t find where it lays out averaging for preference points in the general tag draw?

Close enough for government work 😆

You on the Darby side? Poked around there several years ago but never went back and hunted it.

Wyoming > Hicks at it again

I agree with you buzz, and while I’m sure I’ll get blasted over it, I’m sick of residents whining about the left over draw. For Christ sake if you want to hunt an area put it as your 3rd frickin choice and you WILL draw it before the NR has a chance in the initial draw let alone the leftover.

Wyoming > Hicks at it again

I agree with you on that and I’d even go as far to say that there will be a push to make those LO tags transferable before they would eliminate them. It would be met with huge resistance from residents but I could see certain people making this push.

    Wyoming region r

I’ve never hunted R in WY, but I can assure you 3 & 4 in Colorado will be full of other hunters. There is an OTC elk season concurrent with the deer so it only adds to the pressure.

    MT Late Season Bulls?

Just continuing their war on elk. If I remember correctly their “new” management plans calls for 92,000 elk in the entire state which is half of what it traditionally has been. Current counts are 140,000 of which 70% reside on private land..... makes perfect sense to keep hammering the elk on...

    Wyoming Elk Preference Points question

Disclaimer- I am not as up to date on the youth as I should but I believe the following to be correct. Everyone’s points in the party will be averaged out. So yes if the youth has 0 it will reduce the average. Also keep in mind youth get no discount on the special priced licenses, only the regular.

    Wyoming Elk unit advise.

I’d rather have a general tag.

Leaving in the morning for Wyoming.

Happy for you man! That was a great read. I was starting to think you were the slowest reloader in history but then realized it was a muzzleloader 😂

    Montana on the Upswing?

If someone pays $700 for a deer tag I can honestly care less what buck they shoot as long as It’s legal. I do however get tired of hearing “there’s no quality bucks out there so I settled for this meat buck” and next to it “I’m just not seeing many deer” but my wife, kids, uncle, and cousins...

That’s funny I didn’t figure there was anything “light” about a man who fancies a RUM.

    Lesson learned.

Mtmuley, I don’t know you but I’d still buy you a beer and expect nothing in return. You seem like a pretty decent guy, but you definitely reminded me of why I hunt alone most of the time. At least until the kids get a bit older. I have a deer spot in a good WY elk unit and I always turn up some...

The Ghost of Colorado Point Creep Future

So you are fine with RFW tags shooting deer in November/December but when the new season dates allow public hunters in regular gmu’s to hunt similar dates tags need to be cut, moved to second season, hunts eliminated etc.... makes perfect sense to me.

The Ghost of Colorado Point Creep Future

4th season is pretty dang low already and I agree with you about NR elk being the money maker. If they were really concerned with quality/age class they wouldn’t be shooting a couple hundred bucks on the ranching for wildlife hunts in the sagebrush in November/December.

The Ghost of Colorado Point Creep Future

Why would it have to be reduced? Until bucks start having fawns the buck harvest really has no overall effect on populations until buck to doe ratios drop below levels that does aren’t getting bred. Now if you want to talk about quality/age class that’s an entirely different subject.

The Ghost of Colorado Point Creep Future

Everyone keeps saying reduced tag numbers for 3rd and 4th but I’d honestly be surprised. Colorado is about revenue and I don’t see them dumping several hundred more tags into second season to make up the difference, but I’ve been wrong before.

    Colorado Unit 3 3rd season????

160 is a good buck in that unit, but a lot can and will change over the next couple weeks when your season opens. If you can hunt the entire season it will usually get better everyday. If I could only hunt part of the season it would be the last part.

Deer herd condition unit 66 WY

Not looking for any hunting spots just wanted to get some guys take on the mule deer conditions up there. I have not been to that area in several years, and was hoping with antler restrictions and reduced doe harvest it had gotten better. PMs are good unless you just want to discuss specific...
