Public Land Virginia Buck
That's an awesome buck! I killed my biggest whitetail to date in the GWNF, with a flintlock no less. As much as I like hunting the west, I find myself daydreaming a lot lately about hunting the VA mountains again. -

Will do. No luck in Idaho but explored a ton of new country. Same old deer hunter gripe — saw elk everywhere I went but few deer. I think I’ve got a solid game plan for next year though if nothing else. -

Corned Elk Hash
I’ve been using a 5% brine plus 1tsp curing salt/5lbs meat along with “Corning spices” for elk as well as duck breast. I leave the meat covered in the fridge for 10-14 days then rinse and simmer in a pot of water plus more seasoning mix for several hours and it comes out great. I used to order...- Jim/Wa

Salmon mountains, Idaho
Last year I spent a few days deer hunting in 19a not too far east of Loon Lake. It occurred to me at the time that this would be an easy place to end up abandoning a truck until spring if the weather became a problem. There aren't many ways in and out of there. New to Muzzleloading
I believe that's a 1:48 twist barrel. I usually hunt with long barreled Flintlocks and roundballs but I've also have a 50cal TC Hawken that's almost identical to your CVA. It's very accurate with 385gr Great Plains bullets and 100gr 2F black powder out to 100-125yds. No way you'll be shooting...- Jim/Wa

Northern Idaho Whitetail 8A

Youth Recoil (at a minimum) Rifle for big game
I started out with a Remington 721 30-06 that had a steel butt plate. I was 12 and no bigger than 70#. I wouldn't recommend that approach ;). I did hunt deer for years with a 243. It's an amazing caliber that far exceeds what you would expect from such a small cartridge. The last 10 or so deer... -

Ya, I've been wondering about the need for the 50" vs a usefulness of the larger size. The Pioneer 700, for example, has a bed plus folding seats for the rare occasion when I'm hunting with a 3rd person. The footprint and cost aren't that much more. I'm looking at UTV's strictly for hunting/trapping use. The last time I used an ATV was a Honda Big Red 3-wheeler which a farmer let us use for running traplines almost 40 years ago. Oregon Hunting Access and Weyerhaeuser permit fees
Judging from the way people treat the public lands around here, I have no doubt tree farms have to deal with a lot of damage/vandalism/trash. I also believe the lands would remain open if state government had the political will to make it happen but I don't ever see that happening in WA and...- Jim/Wa
