    Darn knees

I've recently been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis, which so far means a couple sores and aching knees and hands. The hands I can deal with, but you all know how important knees are this time of year! I've been scouting a good deal and my knees feel ok while I'm going, but are really stiff in...

    Calling all coffee snobs...

I switched from a 3oz French press to these instant packets. Smoother than via, in my opinion, and cheaper.

Camera action while being outdoors enjoying the fresh air and adventure. Feel free to add yours too.

Its a little nerve wracking. That's on a pretty popular trial though.

    Backpacking Food

Dehydrating your own food is the way to go. So much better than the store-bought stuff.

Rodent damage to vehicle wiring due to soy based insulation

Not sure about wiring, but my trekking pole grips mist be delicious. This is the result of a ruthless attack on our last bivy trip. Thank god our poles smelled better than us!

    Home made mountain house meals

Exactly. Season heavy and make it more of a stew, then just add in more water to create your broth when rehydrating.

    Hunting the thick stuff

I'm starting to figure out tactics for spot and stalk. (I think) I know what types of places to camp in, where and when to glass, etc. I'm blessed to live in a part of montana with plenty of open country to hunt, and I look forward to long glassing sessions. I also have a short attention span...

I leave mine in the whole time and bring an extra pair which lives in my first aid dry bag.

    Grizzlies and coffee

I grew up camping and hunting in griz country, so it feels almost second nature at this point. Toothpaste, medications, trash, deodorants....anything with a nice smell goes up in the tree. We cook and hang food well away (and downwind) from where we sleep. Gun, spray, and headlamp where you can...

    Home made mountain house meals

Dehydrator @ 130 for 8hrs or more, depending on moisture content. Some people use parchment paper, but I use the screen on one layer and a plastic drip tray below. Vacuum seal. Rehydrate 2:1 water to food. I pour the food into the pot, add the water, then bring to a boil. Let sit for 15 to 20...

    Backcountry hunting and extra ammo?

    Backcountry hunting and extra ammo?

I carry 10. Enough to fire off a few three-shot successions even if I've already shot an animal

Be extra careful out there ... hunting season is approaching.

Glad you're alright! That's big country back there with a lot of loose rock outcroppings and shale slides. Your story makes me extra glad I got an inreach this year. I'll also be more careful when I'm scampering across the rock ridges. Thanks for sharing.

shortest shot on a big game animal?

My buddy and I sneaked up on a bedded whitetail buck this weekend. We were probably only 15 yards from him. If we can keep making stalks like that, we should be in for some short ones this year!

    New Arrival: Army to MT

Welcome. I'm in Helena and will be hunting with a couple vets this season. I'm no expert, but I'd be happy to help in any way that I can.

The Slippery Slope of Trophy Hunting

I'm hunting with 5 or 6 different new or first-time hunters this year. They are all of the mindset of filling the freezer, doe or buck. I think I'm more excited for their hunts where we are trying to fill tags as opposed to some I have planned for myself, looking for a big one. There is...
