    Way better than deer hunting

I had a similar experience bear hunting. I figured it out though. I smell the truth. WAKE UP SHEEPLE! Black bears aren't real. They are a conspiracy created by gas and oil to devalue natural landscapes and scare hippies. Paid protestors are planting false piles of "bear poop" all over the woods...

    Is it worth it?

As a state employee, I get it. Budgets keep shrinking, positions get eliminated, and we are expected to do the job that 3 people used to do. That's not changing anytime soon, unless people all the sudden decide they love paying taxes. So it comes down to the value it brings your life. My job...

First elk season, am I clueless or is this elk hunting?

Sounds like elk hunting, in my experience anyway. When I scout, I like to find where they are, then visualize where they would go from there once they start getting pressured. For instance, this summer I found where the elk were calving in the unit I hunt. Then I looked at trails that lead to...

Hunting camp beer let's see 'em

Draught Work's hand rolled hazy IPA. No, I don't wax my mustache and no I don't buy my pants 2 sizes too tight.

The Bob '20 Elk / Wolf Hunt

    Pants and stickers

Columbia makes a pant that is a thick, rubberized material coated in a thin cloth-like layer. They dont stick to them, except around the inside of the cuff. Got em for 90 bucks off a clearnace rack though, so not sure if they still make them. Won't help the dog, but a knife blade at about a 70...

I feel lower than a bowlegged caterpillar

Again, wilderness area. Not interested in varmit control in an undisturbed, natural environment. Bull snakes on the farm get a pass. Bull snakes 3 miles and 1500 vertical ft from the nearest road, they get to be dinner. Those are my ethos. Won't change any minds on here. I appreciate other's...

I feel lower than a bowlegged caterpillar

Kidding, in case that wasn't clear. To each their own. I just don't buy into arbitrary rules for what I can hunt and what I can't. If it's legal and tasty, I'll hunt it. Wiser men than me make the rules. But if it makes you feel better, this snake was 6 months behind on his alimony payments...

I feel lower than a bowlegged caterpillar

I don't get the glorification of bull snakes. If I was hunting a pasture full of gophers, it would get a pass. I've never seen a gopher in the wilderness area where I shot this one. Got fat eating ground nesting birds and cottontails, things I want to eat. I'd shoot it again given the chance.

I feel lower than a bowlegged caterpillar

Thanks guys. Seems like this happens when bird hunting. Losing game is not cool with me, so if I do hunt birds solo again, I'll limit myself to high percentage shots in spots I can get them. If anyone in the Helena area has dogs and wants to get them on some birds, let me know, I'd be happy to...

    Darn knees

Thanks for the tips guys. I've taken your advice to stay active and that really helps. On days I don't get to the woods, even a short walk around the black helps. Yoga and stretching help too.
