A lot depends on what you are stuffing down the barrel of the muzzleloader. With Blackhorn 209 powder, primer, and quality bullet in a sabot it is easy to get to $2 per pull of the trigger.
I’m with the rest of you that if a mountain lion is close enough that you can hit it with a shovel it is close enough. If he gets charged it will only serve to educate everyone to learn to use a shovel before you carry one…
As others have said - Leuko tape. Game changer for me was to realize that it’s way smarter to tape up before you develop a “hot spot”. Just realize pro athletes tape ankles before the game for a reason. Socks, boots, etc are way less effective than simply taping up before the hike.
My kids can shoot the 44 single shot pretty effectively and it shoots best with the hot 300 grain xtp loads I developed years ago for a super red hawk.
Agree it’s my least used piece of equipment- I do try to slice partially frozen even when using the slicer. For jerky I prefer across the grain slices that are relatively thick and can accomplish pretty easily with partial frozen meat and a sharp knife. Slicer is useful for cooked items like...
I have a red dot on a .350 legend. For kids the red dot has advantages with no worries about eye relief. For inside of 50 yards it is a very fast setup.
My first rifle was a .270 that I developed hand loads for. Later I wanted a stainless plastic stock gun - so I got a Winchester Model 70 “classic” in stainless with the BOSS system on it. I was able to tune the BOSS system to the same load I was already loading.
I didn’t understand the second part of the OP question? Obviously if you don’t own one it is worth getting….
For whitetail in Michigan we are limited use of a strait wall cartridge in my area. So .308 wouldn’t be legal. A 350 legend in an AR platform with a red dot is pretty handy though.
Owned one for a lot of years but have it now at smith getting a 300wm barrel installed. Mine was never better than a 1-1/2” rifle. If I needed the speed I would likely look at 26 Nosler. I do like the MKV action though.
MSR 3 person tent is on sale at REI for 40% off. Almost exactly dimensions you mentioned. Trekking pole structure aren’t usually that large unless you are in a teepee shape.
Its getting more difficult to find anything to watch. The first hunting show I watched was called the Southern Sportsman and it would air once per week and they would always show a cooking portion of the end of the show where they cooked the harvest. The sponsor was House Autry.
I watch...
I went from a ripcord to the hamskea. Both are good rest but once I switched I realized a form issue that I couldn’t notice with the ripcord. If my face applied pressure to the arrow at full draw I can tell with the hamskea - where on the ripcord the launcher arms would hide the form issue and...
Celestron Nature DX
They do not get advertised in the hunting community but bird watchers know a little about glass. They are light weight and great glass and can be found at budget pricing.
