I've nocked the sh!t out of the deer with the powerbelts, if I were using them for elk I'd go with the 405 grain, that will pack a whallop. Although I just looked at their ballistic charts and they don't have anything for the 405's, I'd call them bet they have something on record
Sorry man, not to be harsh....but guess you need to pick different girlfriends.....
I was there once like you, then I wised up and chose more selectively.
IMO, as you age in life you realize that family comes first and missing an opening day or two for important events is not the end of the world. I lost track of the "important hunting days" I missed in the field for my kids soccer/baseball/basketball games & school events, it's irrelevant when...
depends on the woman, some prefer big game, others like the other type such as waterfowl or upland bird. My wife loves to chase elk and deer, but wants nothing to do with anything with feathers or the like, so we stick with that and it's worked out well.
starting out she used to tell me that I...
enjoy the experience, take your time and absorb the area. Set aside more than 1 week if you can. Start out truck camping at the trailhead, then as you get more comfortable you can move into the mountains in your tent if you prefer. good luck
That's one of the better units in the State. That being said, the population has plummeted across New England over the last 10-20 years and the hunt isn't what it used to be. Could be a great hunt w/only 8 permits or it could be very challenging with the declining #'s
The morels grow the spring after the wildfires out here in the west, not sure what part of the country you're located in and if it would be the same situation with a burn. It's always the first spring after the burn out here.
The burns can be pretty prolific if all the conditions are good, I know of guys who have hauled out 30+ lbs. in the good years. We have yet to do that, but the way this summer is shaping up next spring is going to be one hell of a morel year......
I'm happy to report the wife and I found a good bunch this past weekend in NW MT, thanks to a good friend who gave us the location after he picked it.
don't even bother asking.....😁
yah I've made that recipe a couple times, not a big fan, comes out too salty for me. It's better eating it w/crackers and cheese then on a straight-up sandwich IMO
The Sun River WMA opener has been going on for a long, long time, nothing new here. It's a tradition for alot of folks even if it is a circus. I would like to see it regulated at some point, it keeps getting bigger and bigger at the more well known wintering ranges here in MT.
Wardens have...
Trophies West Outfitting in Forsyth, good guys over there but not sure if they are full for this fall. They'll put you on good bulls but it's not gonna be cheap
Yes that was my thought also, that all governor's tags are achieved by the highest bidder, but the OP stated that he "won"? the tag at a DU banquet I thought?
Oh....I guess maybe he was the highest bidder at a DU banquet and that's how the tag was awarded...gotcha.
wow what a tag to have, good luck on the quest.
Winning a governor's tag or super tag would be one of life's rarest & exquisite lottery tickets IMO. I would most definitely sit in stunned disbelief and a daze for days until I could wrap my hands around it. Hopefully the OP understands the...
