Bear meat is pretty dang good. Breakfast sausage and burger I can't even tell the difference between other game meat in most cases. Steaks you'll probably want to have a recipe or marinade but still are good. I've only ate spring bears though. Not sure how the fall bears are with all that fat.
Trapping is a necessity and way of life. It's an extremely effective management tool. Before I took the wolf trapping class this last summer I had some wrong perceptions of trapping. After learning more about it the guys who truly trap care more and have a greater understanding of the wild...
The problem is that some of these cat hunters only care about their reputation amongst other cat hunters and will tree 20-30 cats before shooting one if that. I've seen guys that will go out and tree cats till the general tags are open for some of these trophy units and not take guys with them...
1st week of may is real good timing in my opinion. Best chance at a big bear, at least where we hunt. I'd look at some sat imagery. If you can't find clear cuts to hunt then your not opening your eyes. Find good areas and then don't move. Use your glass and the bears will start to pop out...
Quit caring so much about what the Anti's will use in their Fund Raising materials. Let me guess you are the guys who drive in their rear view mirror rather then looking ahead. In no way are those photos fodder for the antis. Again apparently many of you aren't watching outdoor tv. That has...
If it's a rutty time of year they usually get a little hit of testosterone in the afternoon and like to bugle regularly for an hour or two and then seem to shut up until the last hour of light. If I'm hunting mid-day I like to still stalk very quietly and sporadically cow call. If your going...
I think that thought has crossed some coyote/wolf hunters minds before haha.
And have any of you ever watched outdoor TV? More bad ethics there then one of these derbys.
Spot on. Anyone against the hired hand should go give it a shot at getting back in there to attempt to hunt those wolves. Talk to the guys who have lived in Salmon their entire lives and see what they say about the wolves. I've talked to some very level headed gentlemen and they don't speak...
I'm all for them. People in these communities could care less what the anti's think and that's how it should be. The wolves are a problem down there as I just heard they hired a trapper to attempt to take out 2 packs in the Frank Church and the elk numbers seem to be down. Could just be that...
