Wow you guys crack me up. Not my hunt boys, just sharing my friends 1st elk. Since when can I dictate another man's actions for him?
Anyways when you lung an elk, and he runs down a 45 degree slope he can cover a little bit of country before he dies. Also, a potential world record bighorn...
Ya we didn't gut it because they'd have nowhere to go. Took the quarters off and then was able to roll it enough for backstraps/tendys. Thing bloated like a balloon in a short period of time, nasty smell when we let the air out haha. And yes the Long Bow is in a class of its own.
That's why my brother elected to not shoot this bull, he knew he could get a better opportunity at another time. Our friend Tyler has become a way more ethical hunter now that he hunts with us and not a bunch of jackasses, but I guess practicing on the GlenDel the night before at 80 yards gave...
This year we were fortunate enough to scout before season and the first evening we located 3 mature bulls in two small draws close to the river. After two more days of scouting we knew this was the spot for opening morning.
We left the truck around 5:45 and made our way to the end of a long...
I'd sit from 2-9. Most of the pics from my cam over a wallow seemed to fall within that timeframe. I'd say put your stand a touch higher but I'd hunt it and see how it goes.
Interesting. Do you mind sharing what area of the breaks burned? I'll be out there three days before opener scouting and looking for the elk. I'm sure all the animals are gone!!!
From what I've heard from others you should have zero problems on elk as long as you do your job. I've used them on deer and they are very solid but never elk. If I didn't have a fixed blade that shoots great to 70 already I'd definitely have a couple Reapers in my quiver.
