    4 season tent

I bought one last year. It withstood some heavy wind and snow. This is the 4 person and I think more than 2 people would be tight with gear. After staying in it 6-7 nights, the only thing I really missed was being able to stand up inside. I used a buddy heater to warm it up when it got too cold...

    Tipi tents.

https://luxe-hiking-gear.com/. I don’t personally own one, but I’ve been looking at these myself.

    camp pics

Very pleased with this set up. Stove would have been nice, but it sure held up to some strong winds and cold temps.

12v battery for charging devices while camping

I’ve got a 400w inverter with Gator Clips. Works good. A couple years ago I purchased a jump pack for my vehicle, it has USB ports built in as well as the 12v “cigarette lighter” plug in. It’s a handy device. I haven’t pushed either to their limitations though so I don’t know how many re-charges...

    Father’s Day

This was my pop’s last buck before cancer made it impossible to shoot a gun. This is my first Father’s Day without him around. Thankful for the lessons learned and the time we had!

    Old Age hobbies

In my area, some folks sew blankets for child advocacy groups or hospitals for children in need. Just a little something extra for kids dealing with an injury or the turmoil from a broken home.

Will market volatility and or heath concerns with the virus influence your western hunting plans

I originally voted that I wouldn’t change plans...but it looks like there are so many unknowns and some states are shutting down spring hunting opportunities. Like many others my spring turkey hunt got cancelled here in IL. I’ve heard rumors that with the uncertainty of this virus, there could...

    Bad Hunting Partners

I primarily hunt solo but in 2018 I had a friend decide he wanted to team up and hunt mule deer in Montana with me. We planned for a 5-6 day hunt. The first morning I could see he wasn’t at all enthusiastic with our hike to a glassing spot. I told him to prepare before we went and we’d be...

    IL Doe

My 2019 season recap won’t be as exciting as most, but I’ve read similar stories on here! 2019 turned out to be a challenging year! Started out I had a mule deer tag for Colorado, 2nd season and planned a solo hunt. I was excited for the hunt, but the month before my father passed away from...

    Sabots vs. Full-Bore Conicals

I use the powerbelt copper aero-tip for my ML. They’ve been very accurate and have good performance. I assume the lead powerbelts will work well.

    Illinois 1st season firearm

Saw some does and a couple small bucks. Will hopefully get something 2nd season or at least get a doe for the freezer.

Any Hunttalkers around the Shelbyville, IL area?

SFC B, good luck out there! It's getting close! I live about 40 minutes away, but I'll be about 2 hours south for firearms season. Do they have you at either Wolf or Eagle Creek? If I happen to tag out I'll try to stop by or get in touch.

    Spot locator issues

I have the Spot X, I used it this year and it worked alright. I did notice it took approx. 5-10 minutes to send a message through. Maybe that's not bad, it was my first time using such a device. My wife appreciated the check-in's which were sent to her email account.

Who or what got you into hunting and the outdoors?

My dad and grandfathers. When young kids, we'd always tag along for the seemingly daily rabbit hunts with the beagles. Started off hunting rabbits and squirrels, then on to deer, ducks, and geese. Opening day of gun season was anticipated all year long. Thankful for all they taught me growing...

I’m not far from there, some guys pull nice deer out of that area each year. Hope you have some luck!
