What caliber are you using to get pass through shots on elk

Last couple elk I shot were with a .308 - 165gn Hornady Interbond (best hunting bullet on the market, in my opinion). Both were pass-throughs. One was right at 300yds.

    150gn TTSX in 280 AI

Maybe I misunderstood, but .025 is how much you move incrementally when "fine tuning" seating depth? Like I said before, I don't have a lot of experience with Barnes bullets, but I often test seating depth, but in increments of .01 or even .005. Seems like you'd be skipping over a lot of...

    26" barrel. 57.4gn of RL23.

    150gn TTSX in 280 AI

RL23 seems very stable in 280AI. My best load in that rifle so far has been RL23 and 160gn Accubonds (blems, of course). That combo is leaving the muzzle at 2910fps and is more accurate than I can shoot. I was thinking of using RL19 with the X bullets though, but that's mainly because I have...

    .025 seems like a lot.

    150gn TTSX in 280 AI

I haven't loaded Barnes bullets much, a little bit in .270 win. I'm going to try some 150grainers in my .280 Ackley. My real question to the group here is how far off the lands. With most bullets I start at .03 if mag length allows, but everything I read, including some loading I did in a...

    My next project...

Here's the end result. Fun, lightweight little gun. The smooth barrel nut was a royal pain to deal with, but all told it came together nicely. Very pleased with how it turned out; now I just need to shoot something with it.

    Tikka and Warne

I've used those Warne rings on my T3X .308. The worked well. I have this impression, maybe I read it somewhere, that they tend to move a little over time with heavy recoiling rifles, but .308 would probably be fine. And I think you're going to like that rifle. Mine has really been my go-to...

    My next project...

I had kinda forgot about this thread. I'll post some pics later. I haven't had the chance to do a whole lot of load development with it yet, but got it shooting 140gn SGKs very accurately shortly before hunting season began.

    My next project...

I'm not sure what you mean exactly. But it's a 26" ss Criterion RemAge barrel in a Remington 700 action set in a B&C stock. It's more accurate than I can shoot.

So anyway, the bow is really a good one. Shoots very consistently and fast, I just haven't been able to use it much. I think you're going to like yours. 👍

Man, I have hardly bow hunted for 2 years. My right shoulder has been banged up most my life, but nowadays I can hardly draw a bow. I'm planning to do some work on my Strothers before next fall - lower the draw weight significantly, raise the peep sight higher on the string so I can anchor...
