No prob with them here. Every summer they're directly around in our woods, there's a den within a mile. They are beneficial so we appreciate them if we get to see them and leave them alone. I will usher them off a road because there are too many uneducated who will swerve to run them over.
At close range you're prolly good. If it's a real muzzle loader, flintlock, the delay may cause a prob.
I'd have her shoot the 870 a bunch. A new fangled muzzy should be cake.

Pa. Flintlock ... deep snow(hopefully), crisp still winter air, wool, gaiters, snowshoes, snow covered neck high laurel. Brother it don't get any better. Come enjoy it, I believe it's the only traditional, flintlock only, season in the country.
The TC Hawken has 1 in 48 twist. This gun is a kit built in 1973. Not sure of groove depth.
I generally use a .490 ball with .015 patch. 70 gr. 3F. Way accurate at 75 yds.
