Thanks for the uplift. Hope we all have encounters an good weather. Just pick up a second spare tire, for the truck, an have been hiking 4 to 6 miles 1000ft elevations with 45lbs on. Outa breath but doin it. Even have the wife an kids out now. Can't wait to get after some bulls.
Welcome from Central PA.
Good luck. I to am headed this fall for my 1st elk chase. I was out scouting a couple weeks ago an elevation didn't bother so much as water consumption. No humidity lets you dry out as you hoof it, but then you'll be sucking 2 liters down in no time. An when you see...
Just got back from my very quick 3 days in Westcliffe. Glad to say alltitude had no affect on the wife an kids or me. Definitely get winded quicker. The two hikes we took to Balmans Reservoir and Hayden's Pass were an eye opener. Need to take way more water the next time. It was 90f, but wish I...
I went with Alps Commander-X hauler $200 and an their Orange 30l dry bag. I called them then an got some more snap buckles an webbing to make use of extra female ends on bag. I had a small orange molle bag setup firstaid an a medium for a kill kit. Been hiking with 50lbs weight an no real...
Not to mention word travels fast that you know how to save money by doin handy stuff. Before long you find yourself on a sunny Saterday afternoon frying on a two story roof patching leaks for family that makes more doe than you.
Not that, that happens to me or anything...
But I wish I was fishn...
Summer Snow! Holycow. Glad I ordered ordered tire chains. Was debating it. But sounds like good area to go. Hopefully the water warms up for mid July vacation there.
Awesome weekend for a hike north of Huntersville. Laurel is blooming like crazy an its so wet the ferns are growing waist deep. Had my pack weighted to 35lbs an carried the 10lbs rifle. Hoping it helps for Colorado elk chasing this fall.
Blacksheep, hope you get some good mountain time. I'll be taking the family to a cabin near Westcliffe next to Buck Mnt. We will be out in mid july for 3 nights. Hoping to get afew hours scouting as well. Prolly do some tourist stuff each day though. Rafting, 4 corners, an Sand Dunes. I just...
Coming from a whopping 200ft above sea level here in Muncy PA I am definitely concerned about making camp at 8000 an not even a mile west can be 12000.
Best i can do around here is hike straight up to 2000 peak. Been trying to get out every weekend with my pack weighted down.

RUMs do seem to be result of cartridge competition probly more the hunters need for them. But when you ard shopping for a longer range setup the RUMs cheaper nonbelted brass are hard to turn down.
When I started looking for a longrange rifle I started with reloading and fixing up my rem700 30-06. Then you realize its limits with 178g eldx doin 2650fps. So I figured if get a chance at a bull elk 27hrs away from my home I kinda want a hammer but as light as I can accurately shoot. The...
Thanks. I'm living outside of Muncy PA an do love it here. Green an clean. Lived in Bakersfield CA for 2 years so I now appreciate all our seasons here.
But yep, my first go at elk hunting this year. I mainly diy hunt public land around here an enjoy getting back in.
After seeing the...
