I prefer my browning hells canyon speed clothing. It's performed very well for me from elk hunting to deer hunting. Plus I got it super cheap on clearance. I don't worry about the camo pattern on my hunting clothes as long as the clothing keeps me comfortable- elkfanatic

Traditional Cap Guns - Let's See 'em!
50 cal. kit gun I bought super cheap cause the bore was rusted out and pitted pretty bad. Was going to turn it into a black powder shotgun but discovered its actually pretty accurate considering. Have a machinist friend who does gunsmithing. He turned a 30 cal barrel blank down to match factory contour. Trued up the action/bolt and did his normal accuracy enhancing "magic"Had him make it 24" instead of 26" as I run a suppressor. Shoots less than 1/2 moa if I do my part.- elkfanatic

Knife sharpening
For cheaper/softer steels I use a grizzly razor edge sharpmaker wheel set mounted on a 8" bench grinder. Quick and easy razor edges. For my high end / harder steels with super hard wear resistant carbides I use diamond hones in a customized sharpening jig similar to a worksharp guided sharpening...- elkfanatic

Did you shoot your first deer with open sights?
Me -12 years old- open sight 50 cal hawken muzzleloader- 15 yards = dead whitetail doe. I started my two oldest boys at six years old with scoped Marlin 1894's in 44 mag.- elkfanatic

Not sure why I didn't have pressure signs. Brass was good for 8 loadings before I encountered the first loose primer pocket, which was also right about the time the barrel gave up, so I've scrapped the whole batch. I don't know if seating the bullets out that far created enough more case...- elkfanatic

I will share it, but you need to do your own load work up as this load is HOT HOT HOT !!! I started load development for this rifle and went over published max load with no pressure signs. I was getting better and better accuracy the faster I pushed them. End result was 1/2 moa for about 400...- elkfanatic

I've shot six elk with 175 lrx out of my 300 win mag. 1"- 1 1/2" exits on all except one with very minimal meat damage. For some stupid reason I switched to 220 grain eld-x for my last four elk with only two exits ( six shots) and lead fragments everywhere and a lot of meat wasted. Average time...- elkfanatic

The Season of Stupid (& elk)
Alone= When hiking from point A to point B- rifle slung & chamber empty. When still hunting from point A to point B = round in chamber and rifle in my hands. When it's multiple people hunting = a trusted individual takes the lead with a round chambered and rest follow with empty chambers.- elkfanatic

What is your single top hunting season goal this year? I expect updates damn it.
Goal #1 achieved with a cow elk! Goal #2 achieved with a last day deer for my second son's first deer camp trip. He saw deer everyday and had a lot of bucks that he could have shot but had filled his buck tag the Saturday before. Last day we had a button buck run out and stop broadside at 7...- elkfanatic
