    Lead Shot Ban

I hear you. I can't afford a Mercedes, so I walk 13 miles to work every day. If only there was another way! 😉

    2021 California Bear

Their land holdings are extensive, so there isn’t an easy map to post. OnX would tell you whose land it is. Here is a very coarse map: https://www.spi-ind.com/Home/LandHoldings

    2021 California Bear

Private timber companies own land through the Sierra Nevada. It's checkerboarded with public.

    Lead Shot Ban

I may have been wrong once, but I could be wrong. We do have a bear season.

    Lead Shot Ban

Trump wasn’t wrong about the need for thinning California forests. He was wrong about who is responsible. The federal government controls about half of California’s forest. The State owns about 4% of California’s land base. But something tells me your mind is already made up on this one.

@churchcc12 Can you post your opinion one more time? I’m not sure I understand your position.

    Lead Shot Ban

California’s lead ban law was signed in 2013. It gradually banned lead for various species until a full ban took effect in 2019. The catalyst for the ban was the California condor, which was constantly getting lead poisoning from eating hunter-shot carcasses. Other raptors, like golden eagles...

California SB-252 - Bear Hunting Ban

I just got a response from my senator (Nielsen) today, and thought it was funny because it doesn’t even mention that the bill was withdrawn. Still, the response makes a lot of good points we can all use in the future. I guarantee this is not the last time we’ll see this bill. ———————————————————...

California SB-252 - Bear Hunting Ban

Guys, I’ve been in touch with Roy Griffith from the California rifle and pistol Association. See below article. He says there are two things we can do to help stop this. First, we must continue to email our State Senators and the Governor. Send emails weekly. Second, we must testify before the...

    Venison carpaccio???

While the risks are low, they do exist with raw venison, even after being frozen. If you experience, diarrhea (possibly bloody), vomiting, abdominal cramps, etc, within an hour to two days of eating raw venison, there's a good chance you contracted Hepatitis E. Bon Appétit!

    Shotgun?

That is a wide price range. If you want a reliable workhorse at the bottom of that range with few frills, you can't go wrong with a Remington 870 express. IMHO, you don't need much more than that for a pump gun. At the mid to higher end of your price range, you can buy some very decent semi-auto...

    CA black bear

I’ve seen a lot of fresh tracks and acorn scat at around 3500-4000 feet. They are definitely active, but they still like to come out at night. Hunt early and late.

Sportsman’s Warehouse acquired by Great American Outdoors Group

I haven’t purchased much from Cabelas since they conformed to the cookie cutter cheap junk that is Bass Pro. I guess I better stock up on SW stuff before it too changes all its branding to Redhead garbage. Thankfully, there is no shortage of sporting goods outlets on the internet. Let your...

    CA black bear

Yup, they are still there. I’ve been very blessed over the past seven years filling my bear tags, and I’ve learned that there’s really one trick to bear hunting (or any hunting, for that matter). The trick is spending time in the woods. On average, it takes me nine days to harvest a bear. You...

    CA black bear

Bears are tough this time of year. Many bears have started hibernating by now, but by no means all. In fact, a good proportion of bears don't hibernate at all in the Sierras. At this time of year, concentrate on oak woodlands that aren't completely inundated with snow. Bears will be after...

    New Freezers are Like Gold

I thought I’d give an update on this freezer we both bought. It has broken down 3 times, and technicians have been out 6 times. They don’t tell you that the warranty (even extended) does not cover food loss. Good luck with yours.
