Most of the property timber is 13 year old aspen. There are 6 acres of burr oak.
I talked to my buddy who is a forester and he says to wait 7-12 years and start to cut sections of aspen to create different age groups.
This land is 25 minutes from my house.
I will check out the land around it to make sure we are all on the same page.
As far as out west hunts, I get that 100%. As of now, the hunts out west will continue.
A lot to think about.
Great points schmalts. Those points are things my wife and I will talk about. We are open to all thoughts and ideas.
The biggest reason for buying is to make it our own. We want to have food plots, a few nice rilfe stands and land to call our own. Right now we hunt a local farm but there is...
My wife and I are starting the process of buying land. I found an 80 that I got permission to walk this weekend. As a deer hunter, I know to look for sign (trails, rubs, scrapes and tracks). Is there anything else to look for? The goal is to have a decent deer hunting spot for future years...
This is my 5th year trapping and have learned a few things.
-Trapping is not easy. Most people refuse to check traps daily. It takes a different personallity.
-Buy the rubber gloves your mom used to wash dishes for skinning. The are stronger than the cheap rubber gloves and are less money...
I'm going to start load development for my new 7wsm. I have RL22 and H4831sc for powder and 160 Accubonds, 162 ELDx and 175 ELDx bullets. What combo would you start out with? I have 5+ lbs of both powders.

This is a recoil reducing stock for an 870 with a LimbSaver butt pad and riser comb. The stock is adjustable and works great. It makes 3" turkey loads feel like trap loads. PM me if you have any questions.
I have Vortex Viper 20-60x85 and a cheap tripod. When I tried using it last year, I really struggled due to the tripod. I was even at the point of selling it due to it being so hard to see through. I will it mostly from the truck for antelope out west and turkey/deer in WI. I'm looking at a...
I'm looking at applying for a spring prairie turkey tag. I know land is limited, but are there areas where a guy could get into some birds? Is a guy better off looking at other options?
Here are the bucks. One thing that we learned was that the bucks in the hills are all very simular. We called them cookie cutter bucks. Back home bucks vary so much as far as tine lenght, width, points and brow tines.
It was a very enjoyable hunt.
