I'm looking reboring at 30-06 to 338-06. I'm in the process of bullet research for deer hunting. One of the goals is to use a new bullet so that takes off the partition, accubond, balistic tip, eldx, and hot cor off the table. I'm thinking something in the 200-225gr range. What are thoughts...
Thanks. Sounds like a good bullet for what I want to do. I'll be hunting from tree stands where shots will be close. I have enough rifles that all shoot jacketed bullets. I want to try something new with the 45-70.
I'm very close to getting a call from the local sports shop that a Henry case hardened 45-70 is in. I've wanted one for years and I'm really close to making the investment. My goal is to deer hunt here in WI with it and maybe use it for bears when I draw a tag.
I will load my own ammo and...
Contact Browning and they will send a new one. It is caused when the oils or other chemicals (bug spray from turkey hunting) react to the stock. I took the old one and used paint stripper to clean it up and then repainted it.
I shot my dads 25-06 Tikka yesterday and had a few misfires that I had to shoot again to fire. After looking at the fired rounds most just have a small dent in the primer. This lot of primers has never had a issue in other rounds/guns. I'm guessing I need to break the bolt down and clean it...
I had a tang safety 30-06 rebarreled to 6.5-06. The first barrel shot very well but I was getting high pressure really fast. I sent it back and they put a new barrel on it. Barrel #2 had the same issue so I sent it back in and they put a new barrel on it and sent it back to me. Again, I was...
Well, I made it back from CO. It was a grind of a trip and hunt. The travel out was good but the way home was a race to beat snow the entire way. I did get a nice female lion on the morning of day 5. It was a very tough hunt due to the weather. It would either snow all night or rain during...
I'm 6 days out from the hunt. The forecast is saying lows of 15 highs of 35 for the hunt and 1-3" snow daily. Hopefully the cats move in the light snow and we are able to find fresh tracks.
The excitement is getting out of control on my end.
I will be using my great grandfathers Winchester 94 30-30. I shot it again the other day and at 25-50 yards, I feel good. I've been working out daily still and have most of my gear packed. Thanks for the info guys. 12 days until I head out.
Thanks for your post and link to your story!!! As I was reading it and saw the pictures, I became very excited. I'm hunting with Fred and his crew!!!! I just hope I have 1/2 the hunt you did. Congrats.
I'm going on a mountain lion hunt at the end of the month. I have the layers of cloths under control, boots, gators, pack and rifle. Are there any items on a hunt like this that I guy forgets about? I have trekking poles and snowshoes as well. I'm going with an outfitter and plan to ask him...
CForest, I'm kinda feeling the same.
Pros-I have the tools and it will probably be a shooter
Cons-is the Savage 110 the best action for a 22Creed build?
My buddy has a Savage 30-06 that he is wiling to sell very cheap to me. I'm wondering if it is worth getting a prefit Criterion 22 Creed barrel and swapping it out? Would the Savage long action work with the 22CM? I'm not a huge Savage fan but for the price I can't pass this deal up. My goal...
