The Nosler ballistic silvertip has a thicker jacket and a solid base compared to the SST which is pretty thin throughout. If they are 150 grain BSTs I'm pretty sure there isn't an elk out there that would survive one to the vitals. If they are 130 grain you'll have higher velocity and a greater...
My dad used to shoot these. Kind of an innovative design for the time, using a lighter nose on the bullet (aluminum) moving the center of gravity back. The Aluminum nose also reduced bullet deformation in the magazine caused by recoil. Plus they looked cool. Ha! I know my dad and pretty sure a...
What are your experiences with accuracy and terminal performance with this ammunition? I was thinking of trying it in my daughter's 7mm-08 for a deer hunt. Is the felt recoil significantly less? Should we stick with 'regular' loads?
Thanks
In my experience shooting for top accuracy (i.e. load development, long range competition, testing the accuracy limits of a new rifle/scope/barrel etc.) is largely a mental game. I've had days when I've gone to the gun range and I just don't shoot well because I'm distracted with something else...
I got my daughter a savage 110 with the adjustable length of pull for this reason. I'm sure the Ruger would be fine though. I still use the first rifle my dad bought me when I was 15. It didn't fit me then, but I grew into it ;)
I agree. 200 grain is big, especially for a copper slug, less recoil, no lead in meat, etc.. That being said I have never owned or shot that cartridge, but have always been interested in it.
Got a '13 Frontier SV 4X4 w/ 80K miles. Zero issues. Great truck. There are times I wish I had more room and miss the rumble of a V8, but the Frontier has served me well on several extended deer and elk hunts. It'll be interesting to see what the 2021 model looks like. Best of luck on your new...
