True. I've shot quite a bit of game from pronghorn to elk with a .270 Win., 50 cal muzzleloader and .300 Win. Mag. I've noticed no matter what I shoot (in my limited experience) a broadside rib (lung) shot typically does very little damage to the meat. I shot my first bull elk when I was a youth...
I shot a deer at 30 yards with a 300 Win. Mag. this fall. The deer was broadside and the bullet center-punched the lungs. I was shooting a cheap 180 grain soft point. Deer was dead within 10 yards. There was no meat damage other than to a few ribs. Even the heart was undamaged and delicious.
Years ago, I shot a mule deer at 112 yards with a 180 grain Hornady XTP in a sabot out of a muzzleloader. I was using 100 grains of Pyrodex pellets. The deer was completely broadside and the bullet hit behind the shoulder (lungs). The bullet was a complete passthrough and the 30 yard blood...
My oldest started hunting (10 yo). She got her first animal, a pronghorn. I've been dreaming of this since I started hunting with my dad, and it finally came. I've never been so excited and look forward to many more hunts with my kids...yeah so probably my best year hunting. Just need some...
Whatever shoots accurate...80-100 grains BH 209. Any bullet you would use for deer. Hornady XTP in a sabot, Powerbelts, Barnes TMZ, etc. Try a couple combos and pick the most accurate. Good luck!
.45 CVA Accura long range. 110-120 grains blackhorn 209 powder pushing a 260 grain .40 Precision Rifle, Dead Center bullet....just a combo I've been day dreaming about lately. I do have the old Accura and love it. It shoots about 1" groups at 100 yards, and has never let me down.
I bought one in '04 when they first came out. I was broadsided in 2014?? and the truck was totaled with 105K trouble free miles. It was a great truck with a ton of power. During the time I owned it, I also drove a Chevy w/5.3L and a Ford w/5.4L (for work). The Titan seemed to have way more...
I finally got to shoot the gun. It's an LK-93 w/22" barrel. I used 80 grains of 777 powder. Got a 2" group with 295 grain powerbelts at 100 yards and about 2.5-3" groups with Barnes TEZs. With the Barnes I used Harvester sabots. I was surprised at the felt recoil, it was harsher than I was...
A chronograph will give you the best answer as bullet/sabot/rifle/powder/primer variations will have a bearing on velocity. From chronographed loads done by others, it seems 100 grains of 777 pellets gets about the same velocity as 100 grains of pyrodex pellets. 100 grains of granular ff, 777...
.270 Win. loaded with 130 grain ttsx, 140 grain accubond, or partition will work on anything. For deer and antelope a good ol' 130 grain cup and core bullet that shoots MOA or better will kill deer and antelope perfectly.
