The Trinity Alps may have more bear than deer, but from my experience I think there were more hunters than deer. You can get away from many hunters by backpacking but with game to pack out it can be a nightmare. And not everyone has a horse.
Anywhere south of Big Sur off highway 1 are truly wild boar. No hunting pressure as I have never seen another hunter. If you are in shape for a real challenge the rewards will be great.
Dave,
When I turned on the race and heard Jr screeching it reminded me of what an uncle did years back when Howard Cosell was a sports announcer, he turned on the radio for play by play and turned the TV WAY down!
Code: Turn left off pavement before a sharp right turn, when crossing the second creek running to the right take the first right then second left, go past 217 lodgepole pines on right, 85 Ponderosa pines on left,
turn right where a big tree has a funny looking rock to its right and turn left...
I went to a small business this morning, not to a F&G reginal office and had my elk tag seven minutes after they went on sale.
Idaho F&G needs to come up with a better way for non-resident tags being sold!
If you are talking black bear under 100 yards, have patience to make a double lung shot using a 170 grain Core-Lokt (my favorite) any 30-30 lever will do the job. I like my Winchester 64 or Marlin 336.
If you want a step up, go to the 35Rem.
The Brush Cop by John G Marcon. John was born in Yugoslavia and came to Wisconsin with his parents at one year of age. He, being fluent in English and Polish taught school at age 16 and after eleven years became a game warden in the 1940's. A very good read.
A good friend of mine was killed by friendly fire in Viet Nam. He was a native American Indian from the Digger tribe in Capay Valley Ca. I have a penciled paper from his name on "the Wall", RIP Kip Hadley
