Why fewer California elk
Random question: Why are there not more Rocky Mountain elk in eastern CA? I’ve never been there, but seems habitat would accommodate them well plus elk are very adaptable to different habitat types. -
How to start
Absent terrible weather, elk can likely be found in much the same places between archery and 1st. But everything can change and change quickly into 2nd/3rd with both reponse to pressure and the chance of increasingly iffy weather. I’d pick archery for scout-hunting.- Bullshot

Arizona gotcha
I’m not sure how AZ does it but I would wonder if having 2 licences is even legal, i.e, their system should not allow it. Maybe its different there, but my home state licence comes with deer tags so they would not look kindly on me doubling up. But won’t happen as the licensing system wouldnt...- Bullshot

How many miles?
I have a spot I can be into bulls 1/2 mile in or less… and watch and listen to the cars and horse trailers go up and down the main FS road. Steep… yeah. But from car to elk in like 20 minutes. Downhill packout if ya get one. -

Mauser Caliber Ideas
Either 7mm or 8mm mauser should both be great rounds to reload for. Why corrupt it? I have two 8mms (one brno and another 700 classic). I plan to use the cartridge for an elk someday.
