I’d also be suspicious about the toilet flange/wax ring, maybe there is some cold expansion/contraction gap allowing gasses to burp.
On a side note, in still, cold weather I often get a waft of sewer smell in my yard, that I believe is caused by sinking air pulling fumes from roof vents...
Decide favorite season and weapon. Zero in on those units that took 4 points to draw last year and that look interesting to you and give a fair number of tags (at least in part meaning there are probably plenty of elk). Pick a unit within your capabilities, elevation, ruggedness, wilderness...
Twas the night before Christmas and all through Hunt Talk
not a creature was bagged, and no rifles took walks.
the hunters will be snuggled with trophys surrounding their beds
while visions of crossed corners dance in their heads
and there on the forums arose an ABSENCE of negative chatter...
What’s this BS I keep hearing about off-season? Got a month and a half of deer hunting still on tap and the weather is only now JUST starting to get cold enough to feel like deer season. But carry on with your tale, if ye must. 😉
You can hunt every year with your dad on OTC or second choice/leftover tags. Get smart about your application / pref point strategy for all 3 species, or more (bear, etc) and it will pay off for years to come even if tags overall are getting harder to get.
Bowhunters do well in the east. And these are WAY bigger than the average grizzly I bet.

Don’t skip Bar Harbor! It’s a fun time. Take in the sunset from the docks. Walk the sandbar at low tide. Boothbay too. See the lobster boats come in. Hike and explore beaches in Acadia, Cadillac Mountain, tidal pools, etc. Take a boat to see Egg Rock puffins, visit a heath bog, eat lots of...
For anybody that hunted this year in the worst winter kill areas (NW CO, SW WY, etc) how did it go? Asking specifically about pronghorn since I am planning a hunt in NW CO in foreseeable future, but curious what was observed for deer and elk too. Maybe I’ve missed it but it seems there are very...
I’ve hunted two glory or near glory tags in my life and came away with very average animals. If you knew and paid attention to my take, it is that these are glory hunts to me, and I really could barely care less about glory kills. I had quality fun!
I have hunted a few mid-tier hunts and killed...
I hunted the rifle opener in PA and it was so crowded! In northeastern PA, the deer hunting is crap. Private land can be good I would guess but public is simply hammered. I saw a spike and 5 does… it was the single best day I ever had there. I have NEVER SEEN a branch antlered buck during rifle...
I think it will happen and is happening (quietly, but I think more noticeably to come) as odds and quality go down, costs go up. I think it will happen fastest from the periphery and then in, losing the ones that are farthest out and where it is most inconvenient. Take Pennsylvania for example...
1988, double barrel 20ga, bead sight, with foster type slug
Last deer I that I killed with a gun, 2022, open sight on 58 cal T/C and round ball
Killed many other deer with open sights. And two elk.
Oh great, now there will be thousands of sheath hunters scouring the sage. How much $ per lb? J/k, i think they are cool, 1 or 2 to have on a shelf. Most I’ve found are small and in poor condition, I always pick them up and look over, then usually chuck. On the other hand, I could never chuck a...
