Theres lots of elk on public ground.. the snow just made it a lot easier for glassing and tracking. Its very cold and they will be in or darn close to a food source. Good grass or ag fields. What part of the unit have you been in? (Directions- N,S,E,W)
You are and always will be a legend. I couldn't wait to see how your season unfolded. I love all things elk. Cheers to Grandma!
@Greenhorn i dare you to post up some of the bulls that will call this guy a neighbor on your walls. Im sure theirs piglets hanging everywhere.
Fresh tracks wont ice up unless its warm or sticky packable snow... Ive never seen snow build on an elk like a horse unless it was mud. Horses cant spread their hooves like an elk.
I tend to always see elk tracks pretty packed and noticeably stamped... my 2 cents.
Thanks everyone, super glad it all came full circle! I am very intrigued by elk and love taking older animals.. they are super tough. This bull was gored and had a huge puss ball on his lower chest. Did not smell pretty when i caped him out. Ive never aged one before but i know what an old bull...
Ive took part in alot of hunts and helped kill/packout bulls that most guys dream of. This year, i drew a MT tag with hopes to have a chance to put down a good one for myself.
We ended up losing my Dad to a stroke this year in May. Life just hasn’t been the same since then. I was really...
I got out at noon! Went straight to the local grocery store and filled my yeti with another case of lattes and more pickle juice!… fueled up and got some oreo’s. Made it back to the camper too! Time to get western tomorrow and burn some boot leather.
Prepared friday afternoon for the storm.. loaded my truck down and have been sleeping in the back seat close to the red zone, hunting mornings and evenings when the weather breaks. Bulls are here, just waiting for Hank. Ps-I only have one busch light left.
