Currently logged just over 270 miles on foot looking for moose, or running checking cameras. That doesn’t count miles on the bike or ebike or drive and glass. Still have 42 days until the hunt starts.
Couple weekends ago did a 10 mile morning with my bro-in-law looking for moose, then met up...
They're around... pretty tough to turn up right now. They are laying low with the heat, groceries are plentiful, they are fat and lazy... This one I spotted at about 5 miles as the crow flies according to my waypoints, gotta be big to see him that far...
Not a lot of action on the cameras, mainly small bulls, lots of cows and calves. Plenty of bear and deer. I would assume with the heat wave and drastic increase in bugs lately, most of the mature bulls have been pushing higher, time to move the cameras.
I can also help you out, I have the same tag. I would take a look at the harvest locations for the last few years. All of them are currently holding bulls. Obviously my info is a little guarded, but I'll definitely point you in the right direction if you need some advice. I'm fortunate enough...
Another funny observation, people are constantly telling me that it's a waste of time to scout this time of year because the bulls are just starting to grow. I tend to think differently about this for three reasons...
1. The bulls tend to have a much smaller home range in the summer. Sure, I...
Just to note an interesting observation. Now that the shock has worn off, the gravity of possessing one of these tags is settling in. I remember when I drew my goat tag, the immense pressure of filling one of these tag was consuming. I'm an all or nothing kind of guy, and I'll definitely go...
My personal experience is the moose rut has been last week of September, first week of October. Not that I'm an expert moose hunter but I spend a fair amount of time chasing them with a camera or playing with them while elk hunting...
Croc's are super stealthy, my preferred footwear for archery hunting. I recently snuck up on this guy...Plus they float if you lose one in the water...:ROFLMAO:
How about a 3+ month long thread with a @Dinkshooter inspired title, loads of pictures of crap I won't shoot, lots of getting in shape, lots of semi-relevant babble and hopefully a dead moose at the end...... Coming to a forum near you....
I think a decent majority of people do, I know I had zero issue, they're not the brightest creature, it's more about harvesting in an area you can safely recover them.
If you are a capable backpack hunter, are in mountain shape and can scout, they answer is yes.
