Pref points are for the Gen tag, Bonus points are for limited entry tags. As the rules are today, if you don't apply next year, you will lose your pref points, but you can continue to keep buying bonus points.

Archery success rates are typ always going to be lower then a firearm. With that being said figure out the type of hunt you want to have, see what units offer that hunt and if you can draw. I would say there are OTC options out there that are better then some of the 2-4 point units.
My local archery shop pushes Mission Xbows, but if you want something cheaper they tell you to get a killer instinct, they say that has a way better trigger then it should for the price point.

I have always ran a hard top and have had good luck purchasing a used ones, ends up being cheaper even if needing to paint. I suggest getting ones that the side windows open like the rear, makes getting to gear easier and more convenient.
280AI is a great cartridge, if wanting something different then what you already have, why not just get a savage ultralight, it already has a carbon fiber proof barrel and then swap the stock out if you don't like the fit.

I have never had an issue with any retailer, except when it comes to ammo, but I expect to run into that issue now a days with as fast as people are buying.

Awesome SM bass fishing in Traverse bay, Burt/Mullet lake, Lake Charlevoix, Jordan river you could do a fly fishing trip.
Its a little ways away but pictured rocks national lake shore is cool spot to check out.
