    Tripod on a budget?

I'm planning on bringing my Theron spotter west to the badlands of ND this fall for a mule deer hunt but my old tripod is kind of a POS. Any suggestions on a fairly reasonably priced tripod for use in open lands glassing?

    Leg Cramps

Salt. It's what sports teams use when they are going to play in high heat/humidity games where the conditions are condusive for cramping. A bag of potato chips in the evening (with plenty of water) will help. I believe the high sodium causes your body to retain more water and help relieve the...

    What to do in Helena

I'd second the gate's boat tour. There are some nice hikes around Helena that aren't too strenuous. Saturday mornings there always used to be a bus to take you south of town to the Gulch and you'd hike it back in to Mt. Helena. I always enjoyed the drive over to Lincoln (go through Wolf Creek...

Militia takes over wildlife refuge headquarters

Can anyone explain to me how the last Bundy standoff ended? They basically got what they wanted, no?

    Griz @ bison part 2

I wish I could post the pics from the game but the files are too large on my phone. A tremendous defensive effort by NDSU and a very raucous crowd ruled the day. I quite happy that losses to the griz did not bookend our season.

    Green Decoys

Is the Nature Conservancy land in North Idaho closed, or just restricted to walk-in traffic. I loved the TNC land in Montana as it shut some old roads down and consequently the quality of the hunting went up (WAY up).

    Seward's Folly Soul Searching

Fantastic Randy. If you and the Mrs. end up with a little 11 nine months from now, I nominate naming it Seward.

    The Griz are coming

Bitter ending for this guy. It's tough to maintain the dominance that NDSU has had over the past 4 years and this year we have a whole new crop on defense especially in the secondary which the Grizzlies took full advantage of. Our d will get better with reps and we'll have the benefit of having...

    New Jack for pickup kit?

I've largely done this by not hunting out west the past couple of years. In some of the areas I hunt I am pretty sure the FS employs people with rat tail files to sharpen the rocks on the road all summer. A bottle jack it will be, I didn't know if there was something else I should be considering.

    New Jack for pickup kit?

I drive a pretty fancy rig when I traipse about the hills, a 1998 F-150. It came with no jack when I bought the truck a few years ago (something you only find out when you need it) so for the past couple years I've kept a bottle jack in the bed in case I need to do some roadside repairs. Two...

Anyone pull a ND deer tag?

I drew nothing but my niece drew a youth mulie tag so I am hoping to be able to coordinate my time off to assist her. It should be a great year for it as lush as it's been out in western ND.

    ...meanwhile in Indiana. . . .

I've lost about 10% of my potato acreage in IN so far due to the rains. Another inch yesterday didn't help anything but it sounds like we missed the really heavy stuff.
