    I'm on the highway to...

Thanks, that's what I'm hoping for. I'd also be happy with the Barnes shooting well too.

    I'm on the highway to...

Hell....'s Canyon. So over the past decade I've been fighting with a Remington 700 SPS trying to make it into an accurate, lightweight, all-weather hunting rifle and it's just been an endless circle of spending money and fits of rage. Its current state is a .30-06 Remington 700 SPS barreled...

    holster suggestions

Safariland 7TS ALS or 578 GLS depending on your retention release preference for belt mounted. I have one of each and I think I prefer the 7TS ALS thumb release, but the middle finger deactivation is fairly unobtrusive too. The SERPA has always been garbage and between requiring your index...

Looking for help wyoming antelope hunt

Anyone on the fence about hunting pronghorn in WY should just commit to it. It's a very visual and active hunt so the learning curve isn't very steep, you can have multiple stalks in a day and learning from your mistakes should occur very quickly. If you have a few days of hunting scheduled...

    Pack for "big boned" hunter?

I'm a big guy as well (~50" chest) and the biggest issue I have with any pack is generally the sternum strap. On my Exo 3500 I still have a little bit of adjustment left, but not much. The pads on the shoulder straps feel a little short as well, but it's not a big issue.

    ALPS OutdoorZ Traverse EPS Backpack

I know it's a bit beyond the $150 price range but if you could swing a bit more the new Mystery Ranch Pop Up 18 is the epitome of day pack that can haul meat depending on how much bag storage you actually need. Every Alpz/Tenzig/Eberlestock/etc. pack I've ever laid hands on has felt like it...

Would you drive here in Wyoming?

I found a similar crossing in WY where the trailhead went about 50 yards onto private from the county road before entering a big chunk of BLM. Depending on which map and satellite layer view I looked at there was a lot of variation in where the road/trail was "supposed" to go and where it was in...

First Buck; 3 Years in the Making

Thanks everyone! Hopefully we can repeat the success with an AZ elk tag this week.

First Buck; 3 Years in the Making

So, this trip was 3 years in the making and started with fellow Hunt Talker Flatland Crusoe and I chatting about how to use some extra vacation time in Sep 2015. The Nebraska Sandhills region looked cool as hell, and there were mule deer out there to be had. The first year we were a little in...

    Hadley Creek Outfitters In trouble

Looking at the Pike County Circuit Clerk the following appear to have received citations recently: Allen Blevins (10 conservation cases) Stacey Ward (1 criminal misdemeanor, 9 conservation) There's a fair number of other conservation cases from the past few days filed in Pike County, but I'm...

    Hadley Creek Outfitters In trouble

Greed can really fuel some stupidity and unethical/illegal behavior; up to $5k for an archery deer in the rut on their properties when I was looking yesterday. Though what really boggles my mind is that they want $2k for a fall turkey hunt.

    Deer - lets see em

Nebraska sandhills mule deer DIY on public land. First buck of any variety and couldn't be happier.

    OnX in a vehicle

Generally in-vehicle factory GPS units only have SD slots for manufacturer specific updates. The onXmaps chips are only designed to be compatible with Garmin GPS units. If you have a Garmin nuvi navigation unit they are apparently compatible with the onXmaps chip according to their website.

    help needed.

Riverside Park in Douglas looks like it's got a public launch. You could canoe south on the North Platte until it hits the small section of BLM land. Looks like there might be some antelope there based on satellite images and proximity to water. In reality I'd probably just eat the $35 tag cost...

    1/2 pound food per day

150g of quality protein powder and 150g of coconut oil per day nets you around 1800 calories which is comprised of about 160g fat, 12g carbs and 114g protein which would actually put you on a fairly decent ketogenic diet and might actually 'work.' It's a hair over a half pound, but you probably...

    Hello from Chicago!

How was the deer hunter pressure down there? Flatland and I have duck hunted and pheasant hunted there a fair bit. Neither with any significant success.

    Hello from Chicago!

That's cool, I'll have to watch those videos when I've got some free time. Coues is waaaaaay up on my list of hunts I want to go on. Tried to draw last season but didn't, bought a point this year so hopefully next I'll be able to grab one. Are you archery only or do you rifle hunt as well? We'll...

    Hello from Chicago!

Welcome - I'm in the north suburbs, but work in the loop. Since you are using OnXmaps and Gohunt.com I assume you have been hunting out of state? More importantly, how do you deal with the crippling depression associated with living in Chicago but wanting to be in the west?

Will the Kuiu Kenai insulated pant fit under the Kuiu Teton rain pants

No experience actually wearing them, as the XXLs fit more like XL and maybe even L in normal clothes. That's my big takeaway: I wear a size 40 waist in jeans and dress pants and the XXL/40 - 39" was nowhere near big enough to get past my thighs, let alone actually around my waist without risk of...
