Preference points are worthless if you don't use them - WY Trip Recap

We started seeing pronghorn pretty quickly and marked dozens of waypoints on OnX. The unit had been hit hard by winter kills a few years ago and numbers were down from what we expected, but there were bucks to be found. Many were small to average size and only a handful approaching 'big' in...

Preference points are worthless if you don't use them - WY Trip Recap

11 years ago I met a stranger from the internet at the end of a dirt road outside Kankakee, Illinois to try hunting for the first real time - enter Kurt. We both had shotguns, it was 4AM in the relative middle of nowhere, what could go wrong? I had wandered around in the woods with a .22 looking...

    lunar eclipse digiscoping

Not a spotter and phone, but I broke out the big glass and drove out to the corn fields to escape the clouds.

    Puppy pic. thread

Not all are "puppies" but I've been hanging out with a friend both hunting and training his dogs. Also some pics of other dogs at some Hunting Retriever Club training days as well.

Is there a hunt talk wildlife photography thread???

If there's not a thread already, this is it now. I think I enjoy wildlife photography about as much as hunting. Urban Critters by charliebravo77, on Flickr Urban Critters by charliebravo77, on Flickr Urban Critters by charliebravo77, on Flickr CO/SD/WY 2019 by charliebravo77, on Flickr...

    Backpack Camera Setups?

In terms of "Backpack" camera equipment I have been very happy with the Mindshift Backlight 26l as a dedicated photography backpack. For taking a camera along hunting, I have an assortment of soft neoprene lens and body cases that I can stuff in and around my sleeping bag/etc. I am hoping to...

    Backpack Camera Setups?

Thanks, here's an update from AZ forward. I also upgraded glass significantly since then. Sigma 18-35/1.8, Tamron G2 70-200/2.8 and Tamron G2 150-600mm are my main go-tos now. I have also all but given up on shooting video because I'm just no good at it and it's such a pain while hunting. Kudos...

Thanks! Not a thing, unfortunately - but I made my final payment on it that very day so it's officially mine now.

A few shots from (unsuccessfully) turkey hunting in NW Illinois this past weekend. Friday the weather was in the 60s, Saturday temps dropped and dumped 4 inches of snow, Sunday it warmed back up into the 50s. What a weird spring. Driftless IL by charliebravo77, on Flickr Driftless IL by...

    Illinois's Urban Wildlife

Thanks all! You should see some of my first photos I took when I started getting into it. For some reason I thought this was the pinnacle of art: I've been an amateur photographer for 15 years and I'm still improving every time I hit the shutter. Plenty of road ahead of me for...

    Things to do in Chicago?

Check out the world class museums, wide variety of restaurants and breweries. I've been meaning to check out a fishing charter on the lake but haven't gotten around to it yet. There's a fair number of forest preserves too wander through too...

    Illinois's Urban Wildlife

Living in the Chicago area presents many challenges to exploring the outdoors, particularly that there is very little of it available within a reasonable drive. I've been making due lately by photographing whatever critters are around that I can find in either my yard, forest preserves or just...
