I have everything needed for a diy hunt. I have been out west 7 years in a row hunting. I would not be able to do the diy unit year after year. I will only be able to be in the unit a few days before season. I'm sure I could get 1 person to go with me.
With all guide topics popping up. Would you go on a guided hunt with an outfitter that has land owner tags or diy in a lot better unit with a unit wide land owner tag?
What about the rest of the week? It's not like that stuff doesn't happen to everyone. Elk still have to do elk stuff no matter how much snow or how windy or rainy. We eat and drink everyday to survive and so does the wildlife
To many outfitters just get "guides" that have no idea of how to hunt the species they are going after. They are just telling the guides different spots to check out. The one and only guided hunt I went on the guide told the other hunter "elk prefer the dark timber because that's where the food...
All of which a good guide would be able to handle. They should know where the animals go in different weather conditions or with different hunting pressure. Isn't that the reason you pay a guide.
I don't know if I'd post this. Colorado state income tax rate is 4.4%. By this you made like $6,000. Maybe spend more time working or finding a better job than bragging about being a resident of Colorado.
It's now cheaper to buy an otc bull tag than to draw a cow tag. No special license to buy an otc bull tag but to apply for the draw is another $100 roughly to buy the qualifying hunting license. $860 cow tag no thanks.
Want to talk about point creep. Lots of people with 0 or 1 point were putting in for cow tags to go along with otc bull tags. I know 0 people who are going to be doing that now.
That sounds like a simple question but there's no simple answer. If it's a large bulk buy (splitting a pallet of shotgun shells) then it's just cost. If it's something that is extremely hard to get (ruger marlin 45-70) no discounts because we can sell it very quickly. If it's something that's...
I agree, gun shows are pretty much a waste of time. My experience is on the other side of the table though. People bring stuff in to trade wanting full retail or more for their used guns, don't think they have to pass a background check because of some made-up belief of a loophole, or because of...
I started with with Hornady and adg brass. 140 berger elite hunters, 139 lapua, 136 lapua bullets. Rl25 and H1000 powder. With what I started with I settled on the Hornady brass, 140 berger, and 58.3 gn of h1000. 26" barrel I get 3085 fps. The ADG pressures out before that. Rl25 I can push it to...
Thanks for all the congrats. We finally got him back to camp Sunday afternoon. He was 8 miles from the truck. I was definitely emotional when I walked up to him. This was year number 7. I had been very close many times before but something always seemed to happen. One year wasn't expecting any...
Finally got my first bull. After many trips and packing everyone else's elk off the mountain. I know he's not a monster but he's a public land 2nd choice tag. You can't see it but there's 5 on each side
This thread is just more proof of why you shouldn't shop at the big box stores. Most of the people working there are doing for a paycheck not because it's a passion. There's so much changing with guns on a daily basis it's hard to keep track of everything. Should they know the basics yes...
