Non-resident outfitter license (MT) Bill is up for hearing 2/2/2021 (SB 143)

I find that argument to be a bunch of BS. When I hunt DIY NR the only thing I buy is gasoline.

Non-resident outfitter license (MT) Bill is up for hearing 2/2/2021 (SB 143)

I was speaking of NR guided vs. DIY and you know that.

Non-resident outfitter license (MT) Bill is up for hearing 2/2/2021 (SB 143)

But economically they do benefit the state more.

Non-resident outfitter license (MT) Bill is up for hearing 2/2/2021 (SB 143)

I never said wildlife are like state trust lands. However, if we have to deal with NR I am of the opinion that guided hunters should have preferential treatment to SOME degree based on the fact they contribute more to the state economy. FWIW the sneaky, back handed way the 3000 tags thing got...

Non-resident outfitter license (MT) Bill is up for hearing 2/2/2021 (SB 143)

A resource held in trust for the citizens of the state. Keep that in mind. If a Guided hunter is more of a benefit to the state they should absolutely have preference.

    Winchester model 70

I am a Winchester fan and guns like the OP's and Buzz's are very capable firearms for western hunting to this day. With that said current production model 70 are much better machined than those older guns or any guns made in New Haven. The only down side to the new guns is they don't have the...

    Winchester model 70

I own a model 70 in 300 Ultra. It's my main hunting gun. I shot out the factory barrel so now it's got a Rock Creek 5R, Williams SS bottom metal, Jewell trigger and a Darcy Ecols Legend Edge McMillan stock.

Reducing the Friction Between Working Landowners and Elk

The other thing is the habitat is just plain better on private in many cases. If you planted things like food plots on public land there would be game on them. When an elk has the choice of dining on irrigated alfalfa with little or no hunting pressure vs trying to scratch it out on over...

Reducing the Friction Between Working Landowners and Elk

I believe the factors you list play a big part in the current problem.

None of that was or is true. And the natives in particular was war and a clash of civilizations. One modern and one stuck in the stone age. Predictable results ensued.

Randy, I missed this post. Back on topic here.

No the real problem at Z-L was not geology. Stillwater mines sulfide ores as well. In fact most of the minerals in Montana are sulfide ores.

Non-resident Hunting and the North American Model

The problems with the Zortman-Landusky mine started well before heap leaching was started. While cyanide is an eye catcher the real problem there is acid mine drainage which would have started as soon as the mine opened in the 1800's. Even with that said cyanide leaching started 41 years...

Non-resident Hunting and the North American Model

Zortman-Landusky was originally mined in the 1860's FWIW. It is very much a legacy mine. And if the shoe fits and it does, wear it.

Non-resident Hunting and the North American Model

Buzz, that's living in the past honestly. And way in the past, like before the clean air and clean water acts. Take Stillwater mine for example. It's on a blue ribbon trout stream and right next to a wilderness area. I think even the most rabid leftists environmental nazis would agree they have...

Non-resident Hunting and the North American Model

And to this day the same cabal of useful idiots fight tooth and nail any mine, pipeline, power plant or timber sale that comes up. Many of these types are on this very site. Of course they do this from the comfort of there wood homes using devices made from minerals that have to be mined...

Non-resident Hunting and the North American Model

You get what we are willing to give you. You have no right and no say. Let that sink in. I was a NR at one time. I moved to MT and dealt with the decrease in wages and high cost of living. Any of you guys could do the same if you think NR got it that bad.

I would like to hear your rationale for that opinion. It sure isnt economics.

Non-resident Hunting and the North American Model

Of course the only opinions that matter are those of the residents. After all we are the ones that live here. And yes you should absolutely learn your place. You are not entitled to anything. You are a guest and nothing more.

Non-resident Hunting and the North American Model

It's people like you that really sour residents on NR hunting.
