Guys who use tarp shelters?
I use about a 3' by 7' piece of Tyvek under my Big Agnes air core pad without any problems. I would hesitate to sleep with the pad directly on the ground though. -

What to do with bear hide?
Thanks for all the advice guys; I think that if I'm fortunate this spring and do get a bear I'll try something like RobG's method and see how it turns out. Have any of you ever heard of using car battery acid to "pickle" a hide? From what I've read it sounds effective, but I would be worried...- kad11

Thanks for the input guys. In case I can't find a way to sell a hide, do you guys know of any inexpensive ways to preserve it? What happens to a hide that is salted and fleshed a couple times, left to dry out, and then just tacked up in the shed? I really enjoy spotting/ watching bears in the...- kad11

I've also heard wolves up New World Gulch...last time was this past October. They were in the "basins" just north and east of Mystic Lake. I think they hop back and forth between Hyalite and New World Gulch during the fall; not sure exactly where they'd be now. Best of luck and let us know...- kad11

I was elk hunting around Mystic Lake in the Bozeman area a couple weekends ago and heard several different groups howling back and forth to each other from a couple different sides of the canyon. I was setting up my tent for the night and they were carrying on from about 8:30 till 9PM.- kad11

And just a friendly reminder to anyone else new to hunting the Bozeman area: don't shoot a mule deer buck in the Bridgers (HD 312), it's a special permit only area. I'd hate to hear of someone getting in trouble for shooting a deer they thought was legal.- kad11
