First truck - 1993 Ford F-150 Extended Cab with the 351 Cleveland. It was a hand me down from dad when I turned 16. Had about 120k on it at the time. I’m pretty sure it’s still being driven by a guy that used to work for my father.
Current truck is a 2014 Ford F-150 FX4 with 75k on the ticker...
A lot of factors on how far and how consistently one should be able to ring that plate with their rifle. The range I shoot at has 8” at 300 and 12” at 400 yards and I’m not having a good day if I’m not keeping my shots on those gongs at those distances.
As for pistol shooting, generally the...
You can find White’s Boots on Camofire for good prices (on sale they come in under your $200 mark). There are some on there today.
My dad has an insulated pair of Lochsas that he likes. Build quality seems on par with the other popular European / Italian brands.
For all around utility and for either of you to use, as others have mentioned, I’d be looking long and hard at an SBR with red dot. There’s not going to be anything else that is as effective at putting lots of rounds on target very quickly.
Second would be a 20 gauge auto loading compact...
Hmmm interesting comment…there is probably an AT tire that is better than them in mud but I definitely wouldn’t say they suck. At least not in my personal experience. I wouldn’t ask them to do what a MT tire would do, but I’ve definitely had much worse experiences with other brands of AT tires...
I have been very happy with General Grabber ATXs. Very similar tread pattern to the KO2s and at the time I got them, they were about $50 less per tire compared to the KO2s.
My Beretta 3901 (precursor to the A300) has given me a decade of reliability. It’s exactly like you said…nothing fancy, no frills, but just works. Goes bang every time you pull the trigger, shoulders well. Checks all the boxes. A buddy has the A300 and same story for him. Been plenty happy and...
Plinking? Shoot whatever really.
I would second the CCI recommendation though. They are king when it comes to Rimfire ammo. Good high quality offerings, and their bulk stuff is all good and usually comparable to other brands in terms of pricing.
I’ll shoot standard velocity or mini mags for...
I made the switch from an SX-4 (20-60x85mm) to the Gold Ring HD this year.
Between using it at the family ranch, using it at the range, etc. I can confidently say the Gold Ring is hands down a better scope! Clearer for sure and way easier to get behind. And way smaller and way lighter. I’m...
Find that intersection of small enough to conceal relatively easily, but still large enough to shoot well and be willing to practice with it (H&K P30SK for me). Small pistols are not fun to shoot for extended periods of time and are much harder to shoot well than something with a longer sight...
Based on your budget and parameters, my vote would be a Mossberg 500 or an older 870 Wingmaster if you can find one in good shape (you couldn’t pay me to have anything made by Remington in the last 5 years give or take…too many QC issues).
On the other hand, if you can stretch your budget...
At least give me something!!
Haha who knows…small consolation prize for the cost of the out of state tag maybe.
None the less, 1st Rifle elk here we come! @Dsnow9
Schmalts’ gave you good advice on those Meoptas.
Or you can find Kowa Genesis in your price range on sale. That’s what I’ve got and have no intentions of changing anytime soon.
The ELD-M, while it wouldn’t be my first choice, should work ok. Just don’t get crazy in terms of shot distance and stay off the shoulder since it’s a softer jacketed target bullet and lacks the interlock ring like the ELD-X. A lung shot should work fine and I wouldn’t worry as much about bullet...
