7MM-08 for youth
I built a Savage 7mm08 for my son. I was able to pick up a wooden, factory youth stock from Numrich gun parts. Once he gets big enough we can get a normal sized stock for it. Honestly though, it's a very handy gun as-is.- jwatts

That's no lie. I'm on the verge of a freezer crisis already too. It won't be long and we'll be trying to stretch this 3 limits of wood ducks in the freezer til October- jwatts

Man I'm not looking forward to that fuel bill at all. Mississippi to Colorado at roughly 15mpg. I'll get a Colorado cow moose hunt at the same price of an Alaskan bull moose hunt before it's said and done.- jwatts

Flying with firearm (any airlines to avoid)?
I just found it funny how different those 3 experiences were, considering they are all operating under the same guidelines. I guess a lot is left up to the agent's discretion. -

I have flown with a firearm using Alaska and Southwest. No issues with either airline. I will say that the differences were with the airport TSA agents themselves. New Orleans- The TSA agent never opened the case, didn't inspect the locks or anything, and didn't even run the gun through a... -

Congrats on the tag. I'll be coming up in early July to get a little scouting in. It'll at least give me a lay of the land and let me figure out camping spots, access, etc.- jwatts

Colorado 2022 Draw Results
I ended up picking up a cow tag. I figure that's my best shot at ever hunting a Shiras. I'll start throwing my name in the hat for bull tags later on down the road -

How do you handle a Hushin' addict?
Make sure your brim is flatter than his and tuck your ears in a little deeper into your hat to assert dominance. Once that is done you can explain how the "fire bull" was killed almost a decade ago and he should really move on. Coming from a person of obvious dominance it should make an impact...- jwatts

Hunting pack for a growing youth hunter
I picked up a Mystery Ranch Scapegoat 25 for Cole. It has a decent amount of adjustment and fits him now. He took it on the antelope hunt when he was 11 and it worked for him then. He's about to be 13 and it's still fitting and seems to have enough adjustment to last a while. -
Proposed "No Hunting" Buffer on Mississippi's Malmaison WMA
He wasn't too thrilled. He even got to have a few more minutes to air his grievances. I bet he had a long ride home after that meeting.- jwatts
