No clue. I had some rounds loaded and shot them in the morning at around 50 degrees with no issues. Later in the afternoon I shot at 80 degrees from the same batch and got a lot of pressure signs, to the point it jammed my bolt on one shot. All of the ammo was loaded at the same time, with an...
I tried several bullet and powder combinations. I finally settled on 4831SC and 162 ELD-x. I got very consistent velocities and accuracy. RL22 was faster, but very temperature sensitive. H4350 was ok. It didn't quite have the accuracy of the 4831SC though. I have shot deer with the 162s, and...
The Southeast Chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers is holding a membership drive in Mississippi. We have had a surge in numbers and engagement in the state over 2018 and want to keep that momentum going. If you're not a member it's time to join. If you are a member, a renewal or membership...
Any gear doesn't get counted into the equation. The only expenses are gas, hotels, and food that we will cook. Everyone is responsible for their own food on the road and on the hunt, but we do throw in and split tortillas, water and such. Going into a hunt we get an estimate of the fuel and...
The Southeast Chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers will be hosting a Pint Night on September 29th at Lost Pizza in Ridgeland, MS. If any of you in the area are interested, stop by and join us. Here is a link to the Facebook event invite.
I am working on loads for my 280ai and 162gr ELD-x bullets. So far the best speeds have come from RL-22, but the loads haven't been very consistent. It has also proven to be pretty temperature sensitive with the hot weather we have been having. Working up toward max, I had a great node in the...
That is exactly how it should be done. Even on a backpack hunt I haul in some bacon grease. You'd be surprised what you can fry in a cook pot if cast iron isn't available.
Private waters aren't as common out west as it is in the east. Over here there are a lot of private watershed lakes. Also in Louisiana, a very large portion of the coastal marsh is private. Canals are gated and access is restricted to the landowners or lessees.
Just under 2 weeks until this Pint Night. Keep in mind we are going to have a gear swap. If you have any gear you don't use, bring it out to try to sell. If you need any gear, come by and see what's available. Anyone selling any gear will be encouraged to donate a percentage of the sale back to...
I am looking forward to the pint night. I have wanted to make it to one, but since most of them happen out west I haven't attended one yet. I am excited about the SE Chapter and look forward to seeing where it takes us. I will be bringing a longbow and a few other items for the gear swap.
