I heard that the crappie were really being slaughtered at a local lake so a friend and I decided to get in on the action. Saturday we loaded up the boat, bought minnows and headed for the water. Of course we didn't catch a damned thing. Around noon we packed up and headed to a smaller...
Here's a bit of interesting trivia. This woman was the muse for his song "Sundown".

The real cause is that the government decided that no place along the river was allowed to flood. Levies get higher and thicker and the water has no place to go but up. There aren't large flood plains along the upper Mississippi anymore.
I slung a lot of sand bags back in 93. If I remember...

The farther south you get in the state the worse people drive. Then you hit the hills of Missouri and holy crap...
I've used shotguns (shooting slugs) for many years. Frankly, I wouldn't even bother reading the chapters on shotgun hunting from a book that was published in 1986. Slug guns today are a completely different creature from the ones made in the early 1980's. And that isn't taking into...
Rifled slugs will fowl the barrel pretty badly.

Tons of robins and house finches here in southern Iowa. Ground squirrels came out of hibernation during the last warm spell.
We bitch but this really wasn't a bad winter for much of the midwest.
There were plenty of 16' Jon boats for sale over the winter for $1200-2000, with trailer and sometimes an old motor. Maybe it's just this part of the country but I doubt it. If you have to have new you're going to pay for it.
My dad's first gun was a 39A. What a wonderful rifle. I had it for years until my brother decided he had to have it. I believe it was made in the late 1940's.
