For some reason, I happen to like the Ruger 77 black plastic boat paddle, stainless rifles and own several in different calibers.

I rigged up something very similar (minus the duct tape) and have done a bunch of arrows that way with no issues.
Got them cut square enough to suit me, they shoot fine.
Bought one several years ago thinking I'd use it for late archery season when it's really cold and difficult to draw a bow with all the clothing, etc.
Shot a couple deer with it and gave it away. Too darned easy far as I'm concerned, no thrill to arrow something with one, and not much sport to...
Everyone I know that has an outdoor wood boiler becomes a slave to their wood stove, and pretty soon it's not much fun.

In the early years of scoping high recoil 12ga slug guns it was fairly common. Of course we also typically bought cheap scopes.
