I've had five different 338 WM's, going back over 30 years. All but a Ruger 77 with open sights had 22" barrels (my favorite bbl. length for the cartridge). The Ruger kept its 24" barrel. I generally just used 210 Paritions.
At the end of the day I just found it didn't do anything "lesser"...
I haven't hunted the opener since 2019. That was a beautiful weather opener like this one (the 2020 and 2021 openers were snow storms). This year I backpacked-in Friday assuming it would be fruitless, but still enjoyable. Correct on both counts! I needed a night away in a tent by myself, and...
BS - it's only permanent if you're lucky. It takes a solid CNS shot to stop a bear from chewing you. NO ONE could effectively use a pistol to stop a charging grizzly 100% of the time. No one.
Yeah, WTF - I don't understand either. It's a joy to sleep under the stars - there's no bragging about it. I just don't understand where that statement comes from. I came of age when it was considered normal to sleep under the stars. I've done it above timberline, and done it on winter trips...
I love "cowboy camping" and have slept out more times than I can remember. Mountain tops are my favorite place to sleep under the stars.
My most memorable incident happened years ago on a solo backpack. I knew the weather was going to be good, so rolled out my ground tarp, ensolite pad (that...
I used a variety of Mountain House entrees on a 3mo's walk on the Appalachian Trail in the summer of 1977. Given today's choices, I won't put that chit in my body.
Given some of the embarrassing stuff those of my generation post on various forums, I'm sad to say I'm a baby-boomer. But I hope to actually know a little bit about history, and have some common sense coupled with an open mind and eyes. Thumbing through my old copy of Charles Sheldon's "The...
Pretty easy to be glib about death and suffering sitting behind a keyboard. I think all of us from Montana are disgusted with the whole Big Sky scene, but I'd not wish a grizzly mauling on anyone.
