Started with beagles as a kid. Graduated to pointing dogs as an adult. Started with a field bred weimaraner then got a Deutsche kurzhaar. Will go back with a DK next time, but would be happy with most continental versatile breeds.
I think bison are one of the biggest failures of North American conservation. Greed and lobbyists have limited their recovery. There are viable areas that can support them. The massive herds of the past are gone, but we have room for more than the handful of free ranging herds that we have
When getting a new boat, the most important thing to have is fishing buddies. Let me know when to show up with my rods. I'll buy the beer.
Seriously, Congrats on the new boat!
I have 2. A 3x9x42 with a #4 reticle and a 3x9x40 with a ballistic plex. Both have been used extensively and been solid performers. I would readily buy another if it was in a configuration I was looking for.
See the attached email from Ramshot. I would work up slowly, and wouldn't get close to the max load in a 96 action.
My rifle seems to like the combo. These were shots 1, 2, and 3 (top to bottom) when I sighted it in. I need to do more testing, but with powder and primer shortages, I haven't...
Since this original post, I have done some work to this rifle to make it a little more modern and functional. It had previously been drilled for a side mount so all collector value was gone. I added a red recoil pad, full lenght bedded it, installed a crossbolt thru the wrist, drilled and tapped...
It really depends on the gun and fit. Nothing beats a light well proportioned SXS for snap shooting when following dogs. But I usually reach for a heavier O/U for pass shooting doves, ducks, etc...
I'll let you know how this one does if I can ever find magnum primers.... in the past they have done well if you free float the barrel and bed them. They have cold hammer forged barrels. The stocks are usually the "rough" partof the gun
I worked on it in phases, finishing the inletting, bedding, etc.. it has taken awhile to finish. The action is fully bedded with a steel crossbolt capped with African blackwood. I used buffalo horn for the grip cap. I bedded the barrel channel with a lug on the front stud to stiffen it if he...
I've been working on this project for awhile. As a sucker for a bargain and a self proclaimed mauser junkie, when I found some NOS stocks with nice grade walnut I jumped on a stack of them. They were inletted for 98s with a side safety, checkered, and had a tip. The grip cap and crossbolt were...
I use 2 mausers built in the early 1940s a lot. 1 has been reworked into a custom 7x57 and the 9.3x57 has its original finish and barrel. I also have a remington rolling block 50-70 that was built in 1867, but it only comes out occasionally.
A couple of boneless hindquarters with a simple rub of salt and pepper. Will break out the slicer to shave them tomorrow.
And a batch of Hank's chipotle jerky
Always processed my own game. My older brother worked as a butcher when I was a kid and I learned from helping him. As I've gotten older, the products I make have expanded to include curing, corning, and smoking. Majority of our red meat is game and we supplement with fish and gamebirds.
I run with course salt, pepper, rosemary. Leave in fridge overnight, uncovered to dry. Smoke to 125degress. Usually takes 3-4 hours in my smoker. Let rest. Slice.
Serve with horseradish sauce.
1 cup greek yogurt
Juice of 1 lemon
Horse radish to taste. I usually use the baby food jar size of...
