Has anyone hunted black bear in SE Alaksa? Some friends and I are looking into a hunt next spring in the Tongass or Chugach National Forests. Anyone have some general ideas on good places to go, and maybe where not to go?
Thanks for any info!

I can't wait to get out there! A friend at work had a bear up at his cabin Northeast of Blackfoot last weekend. Looks like they are already up and around in eastern Idaho. Mild winter and incredible warm weather this past few weeks has em up and on the prowl. Hurry up April 15th!! Thanks...
Better off going with something more along the lines of a 70 - 85 grain? Primary purpose would be yotes and rock chucks.

Anyone using 55 grain ballistic tips or 58 grain Vmax and getting over 4000fps? If so, how is the accuracy? and do you mind sharing load info?
Thanks

The way I understand it.....Polar Bears are far and away the biggest bear. As far as Griz, there is no genetic difference. However for trophy classifications Brownies are griz killed within 150 miles of the coast. These bears get huge due to thier high protien diet of fish. Another name for...
Anyone out there know anyone who runs cats in the eastern to central Idaho area. What should it cost if the only service was the dogs and the owners know how, no room/board etc. If anyone provides this service or know folks that do, please pass it on.
Thanks
Shoot straight...
Here is an elk story from 3 years ago. After spending 15 days chasing elk up on the divide above Leadore, ID during the general archery season, it was time to bring my wife up as she had drawn a rifle tag in the same area. We headed out the first morning, up onto the divide, and a couple of...
BIG MULIES get my vote. I know they are out there and some of you guys bring home the proof, but high country mulies are one smart elusive animal. The odds get alot better if your lucky enough to draw a rut tag and the snow flies, but even then it is tough to close the distance on thier sage...
Thanks for sharing all of your experience. Since I still have not shot this rifle and it is new in the box, now I am thinking about trading it off. I have a .300 mag which I use for elk and deer, a 30-06 which my wife uses for elk and deer, and a single shot .223 H/R varminter I use for chucks...
Recently won a .243 in an RMEF raffle, Mod70 classic featherwieght. I started talking to a few folks about it and without even trying all sorts of arguements came out about what its limits are and what is ethical or not. All you .243 hunters out there, what have you hunted with it and what has...
Wyote-
Actually, My cabin is less than 3 miles north of that road (Flagg Ranch road/Reclaimation road)and that is the area I am looking at. Sheep Falls on Fall River looks to be a good general area, and a few other areas even closer held a lot of bear sign during the elk season this year. The...
DKO,
Thanks for the reply, Looks like I spoke to soon. After posting the message I got to looking around and found a lot info already posted.
Still interested in Griz coming to bait stories or meeting up with bears on the way in or out of the site.
Hurry up spring!
Howdy, Looks like a great forum you got here, I like the fact it seems to have a lot of folks from western states with real experience.
My passion is elk in eastern ID, but I recently built a cabin near Cave Falls and the South East corner of Yellowstone Park. The local folks talk about bears...
