    4Runner for hunting

I have a 2008, currently with 132,000 miles. I added an RCI skid plate and a set of Shrock Works rock rails, mainly to get jacking points. My big question remaining is putting chains on the front. I was thinking about spacers to get more chain clearance, but decided against it. Anyone have...

    Green Decoys Go Antelope Hunting

If that is what green decoys do, sign me up. From the smiles on the faces, to the full dinner plate, tis is a great thread. Thanks for posting.

Announcing the New Jersey Backcountry Hunters and Anglers Chapter

I started as an adult onset hunter in NJ, going after squirrels on Hamburg MT (?), then deer in the Great Swamp. Good luck.

    Cow/doe hunting

I would definitely watch a cow or doe hunt.

Alaska Black Bear with Spitz and Fin

Either Fin has really small hands or that is one big bear.

    LWCF: MT Representatives stance

From Gianforte's reply Any chance that this is related to Congress' refusal to properly fund the forest service, making them raid operating expenses to pay for firefighting?

    Colorado Draw Results

Excellent idea on the draw recap reports - thanks to Michael and Wllm. Based on the recap, I drew a deer tag. Also Colorado DOW is telling me I need to change my antelope unit - point creep is pulling away from me.

    Colorado Draw Results

I have always felt that Colorado charged the non-resident hunter a bundle but went out of their way to give good value and make you feel welcome. However this business about releasing the results over 4 days just means I will be checking at least 4 times instead of once. They want credit for...

    Accessing Landlocked National Forest..

My recollection from when Big Fin did this is that they used a helicopter and landed on grass - not on a road. I may be wrong but believe that Wingman used a supercub to access the same area and landed on a road. If it was me I would talk to the BLM, if only so they know what you are up to...

    Hunting Boots vs. Hking Boots

Both of these seem to fit my feet - others have good luck with a variety of brands. When I bought boots, I took them to work and spent lunch hour walking around on carpet to keep them clean before I returned those that did not work.

    Hunting Boots vs. Hking Boots

The backpackers (and some are carrying heavy loads) seem to stick with the ankle high boots. I think this is because they are almost exclusively on trails. My hikers are Lowa Renegades, for example. I wear a pair of 8" or 10" Cabelas Meindl's for hunting, which I justify by their protecting...

    16e rifle hunt

I am sure you have already done it, but watching the OYOA videos of Randy in 16e may be useful and is lots of fun.

    16e rifle hunt

I have hunted 16c but not 16e. IMO you need a barrier that keeps other hunters away and makes the elk feel safe. That can be terrain, timber, or in 16e...MILES. Good luck.

    Schnees? Crispi? Kenetrek?

I use Lowa Renegades for hiking and Cabela's Meindl (Alaskans?) for hunting. Have had good experience with both, but in my experience the Meindls work best when they are a bit snug.

    Schnees? Crispi? Kenetrek?

To echo Gomer - The high-end boots are generally well made but each is made on a slightly different last (foot model). Finding one where the last matches your foot is probably the most important issue. If the boot fits...

Public Land Ambassador - Marcus The Leupold Llama

Sounds like a winner to me. I always associate Leupold with riflescopes, but they make a fine line of Binos too.

Common Sense Check: Investing While Having a Loan

The last 10 years have been a pretty continuous bull market. Cracks are starting to show, however, and last time around we had a 50% or so drop in the market. Long term returns are more like 2-3% over inflation. On the other hand, it may be worth paying the 3.5% for financial flexibility...

    Garmin GPS

If you have a smartphone, you already have a GPS, and with a better screen. A number of mapping apps are available. Onxmaps has land ownership but is pricey. Backcountry Navigator for a one-time cost of $13 has many different free maps and aerial photos.

Good luck. I have a nephew in Oz and will let him know about it, and will keep an eye on it myself.

    Colorado Preference Point Question

My recollection is that if you bought a hunting license in the previous year (ending March 31 or thereabouts), the PP fee is waived. I have been known to buy a small game license in the middle of March.
