The other alternative is change out the barrel on the AR to 1/7 or 1/8 twist and shoot long 223 bullets like 69 or 77 grain Sierras at 2700 will punch a hole without expanding or tumbling like 62 gr green tip. I have plenty if you want to try some give me a call.
I was spoiled living near Winchester for 25 years, bought 20 or so usually for well less than $500, stripped most of them for actions to build custom rifles, the only ones I paid up for were a standard grade 7 MM Mauser and a 257 Bob in super grade that I left alone and those two cost well below...
I should have qualified my statement on pads, yes you could order a pad from the custom shop, and sometimes a distributor would get a run made with pads, usually a standard featherweight came without pad. The number of model 70's that "fell off the truck" at the New Haven plant resulted in some...
No all the original feather weight came with a steel or aluminum but plate. That looks like a Pachmeyer white line pad, all winchester pads I have seen are solid red with Winchester logo.
Ben is spot on for price, 270, 308 were the most popular feather weight calibers in the 50-60's so without store tags as a "new" for collectors no extra value. Get it is a great shooter that will not depreciate muck if at all and might become a favorite.
be aware that your once fired from different rifles will need full length resizing to deal with different chambers for Ackley which has straighter walls than 06 brass. I have 5 AI chambers that I load for and have learned to fire form new brass only as I have had a few instances where case was...
mine is now 3 months old and being fanatical about rehab i am at about 90% the big thing was continuing to press on with flexion work it will hurt but breaking the adhesions and scar tissue will be worth it. Riding horses every day and even barn work. Just hauled two horses to Pennsylvania and...
That would be great to trade info and plans. I am in for early rifle so if I draw (19 pts should do it) I can give you some very current info. Let me know your scouting plans and maybe we can do some together.
Yes 76 is rugged for a great deal, but can be accessed without horses. I live in Durango and have horses but will probably decide not to use them, very weather dependent. I decided to burn 20 points for early rifle as I am 74 and just got a new right knee, figured it would be good incentive to...
Go to local Co-Op or tractor supply for the concentrate. I have had Lyme disease twice and it is not pleasant, about 20% of tick bites are asymptomatic with no red bullseye to get your attention.
I started reloading in college dorm room with a Lee set up for 222 and 6MM rem, about 55 years ago so you do not need to be fancy. I found the biggest savings used to be in straight wall pistol cases and small gauge shotshells. Rifle never was about saving $ as I shot only 3-4000 centerfire...
The season looks so promising I am having the new Bell ranger flown up from Texas and it can be made available for your hunt, it seats six and the ceiling when pressurized is 25,000 so I can land you anywhere you want in Colorado, kind of Uber hunting. It is already set up for shooting hogs so...
Well the knee rehab is going super and I got clearance to start back on my horses last week and climbing to get in hunting shape. I put the application in for early rifle, if draw odds are correct I should have 1-2 points above the cutoff for 100% draw success. I just started considering...
Imperial sizing die wax to lube cases, lee priming tool, get a digital scale (Dillon very reasonable) and a Lyman powder measure works well when loading a bunch of cases. Go with a manual from a powder manufacturer first as they typically cover more ground and bullet data is pretty available on...
Naw a 40-65 at 500 meter silhouette Rams That's a brick! 400 gr cast bullet, black powder, 1200 fps, open sights, prone takes almost 2 seconds to get there.
