Who And What Was George Custer?

You are correct, they did occupy all sorts of places, do you really think there were 50 million? sorry not buying that, the southwest was extremely limited by climate, much of the southwest settlements were abandoned in the 1300's and archeologists are still debating the reason why. Some of my...

    High Country Hunt Knee Rehab

Well, game on started my pre hunt work out last week, climb 1,000 vertical in 3 1/2 miles 5 days a week to test the new pins. So far the climb is very manageable it is the decent that is giving me a problem. I think I just need to develop confidence that the knee will hold up if I slip. Climbing...

    High Country Hunt Knee Rehab

I am 5 months out from partial knee and doing great, be religious about rehab exercises yourself and push your level of pain/discomfort while doing bending exercises. I was doing multiple sets of stretching/bending daily. 30 days out I was riding 2 horses a day working on keeping them in shape...

    We'll miss you Hankerdoo!

what a great example for all of us. I just had to help a heeler /aussie cross to her last gathering of cows for fall shipping after getting her as a 6 week old rescue 15 years ago. My Drathaar died of lung cancer at 11 and she was euthanized in my arms in the back of my truck where she liked to...

    Supartz/Synvisc Knee Injections

Can help a little, after 8 knee surgeries (5 right and 3 left) I tried some synvisc and it seemed to give me some temporary relief. I have had a knee replacement and more surgery on joints than I care to recount, the replacement parts today are terrific so why not just get a new one. I was back...

Pretty & Classy rifles. Lets see them!

Here is another safe queen, built in the 50's by J W Van Patten in Pennsylvania, early 1900's generation Springfield action with an "air gauged match barrel" in 30-06, extended Warne type scope bases as a 10X Lyman target spot was used to check load accuracy. The stock is bastogne walnut and...

    Getting into suppressors

Same here, the POI shift on my Bergara 20 inch 308 is a very consistent 2 in low and 3 in right, on the 556 AR platform it is high and left, not near as consistent with the light barrel. Can gets branding hot after 5 rounds so best get an insulating wrapper.

Pretty & Classy rifles. Lets see them!

First picture is the P O Ackley 35 whelan muzzle break, the second two are the 35 whelan and a very early low wall that was reballeled by C C Johnson of Thackery, OH and so marked. He interestingly used a barrel from an early Stevens heavy part octagon /round barrel that he relined to 22 long...

    Getting into suppressors

The tim varies a bit by which ATF office is working on the application, the fastest for me was 6 months and slowest was 12. The 22 "tactical" matches are very popular and most of the guys use suppressed rifles in that game. I have never shot in one, but the guys I know who do tell me the can has...

    Getting into suppressors

Yankee Hill make great products, I have a titanium one that works with 20 to 30 caliber just screw it on the brake that is their connection point. I also have a 223 specific Black Rain that is excellent but not as versatile as it stays on one AR since it is threaded directly to the barrel. I...

    Vintage Rifles, Vintage Scopes

Probably my Ballard 40-65 is the oldest, but hunt consistently with several old pre war Model 70 and 54 Winchesters. Just completely tuned and cleaned a Winchester saddle ring 1895 in 30-40 Krag that I returned to Wyoming to be passed to the next generation to hunt with, serialized in second...

    A first elk hunt

Get a quality scope, check schmaltz on HT i have bought from and he is the real deal, good prices and good advice. As for ammo it seems like availability is improving, particularly of high end expensive stuff. Go to the Nosler website and contact them on custom loading some for you, a few $$...

    A first elk hunt

Altitude is a factor for sea level folks, usually best to get there at least 2 days early to acclimatize, I have had the experience with two Texas hunters that we picked up at the airport in the morning and were at 9500 that evening. Had to take one back down with altitude sickness the next day...

    Badgers

Had one in the bottom pasture hunting and digging up gophers, big holes worse than prairie dogs a little problematic with some high priced horses in that pasture we tried to trap him to move him, but he was too smart for a live trap. Saw him a few times, cool character right up with wolverines.
