Where in Africa are you going? Terrain dictates your zero in my experience. I made 3 hunts in NE South Africa, Used a +1@100 first trip with a 35 Whelan AI 250x@ 2550fps. which was a 150yd zero. That was also my longest shot then. 2nd trip, same place but +2"@100 with a 340Wby 210xbt @ 3200...
I used a 22-250 with a 9" twist in a 24" (sporter bbl on a Model 7) it was fine with the 60-63 gr stuff. I then had it barreled with an 8" twist 22-250 AI. It loved the Hornady 68 Match bullet over N140. Humdinger combo! I had an 8" twisted Lilja .224 TTH on a Kimber 84M that loved the Swift 75...
Run an AD in your local Classifieds. You can usually get more for it like that. I would also suggest you list it at $600 with the scope "Or Best Offer". You can "give them a deal" at $500 then! Everybody loves a bargain remember!
Hey Seamus, I see some R33 and R26 over on Gunbroker. Expensive. I also saw some 7828 over on KSL Classifieds. 7828 has been good for me too, even in the 7mm RUM. Good luck to you Pard.
OK, for on Game results, let's try this another way...who has used the old 338/06 or 338/06 Improved? forget the powder/charges, what bullets do you use?
Last time a loaded for a 7mm Rem Mag, a few years back, I used both the Sierra 160SBT and the 175SBT. I used R26 with the 160 ( 3100 easy) and R33 with the 175 (solid 3000) Fed 215 Magnum Primer, Winchester cases. BUT...I used a 26" barrel. Theoretically you could knock off 50fps for both loads...
If so, what barrel length do you have and what loads have worked for you? I finally found a 22" Ruger and will load both the 180 NAB and the older 200 NBT. I'm not a LR Hunter, I don't shoot at unwounded game past 375 or so. Mostly I hunt the edges of Aspen and Black Timber with an occasional...
We've used the little 3" Mod 60 in .357 mag/Buffalo Bore 180 HC in a Cross Draw holster. Light, powerful, always with you. One of many alternatives friend. Carry a pistol if you want to, life is short, enjoy yourself! :)
I started out at 11 in East, Texas, a ss 20ga/#3 buck.( gift from dad cost $26) Then went to a Mod 1148 "kick your head off" 12ga with buck ( $60 used I paid for) ( we ran deer with dogs until I was 16) From the 12ga I went to a jammomatic Universal .30 Carbine ( traded a saddle for it) and at...
I don't like to shoot unwounded game past 375 or so, and only then (a) I feel I have to, its my only opportunity(money hunts i.e Exotics and Plains Game) and (b) I have a solid shooting position. I "prefer" 150yds/closer. Out West, my "averages" are 171yds on 4 elk, and 75yds on a half dozen...
I "started" hunting deer in the Big Thicket of SE Texas at 11, didn't kill my first until I was 15! (Used hounds then, and its not easy to get a shot at running deer, ha!). Anyhow, I "worried to death" a small button buck at 50yds (first shot) with an old "jammomatic" Universal M1 .30 Carbine...
If you have big hands, the Bergara B14 has a very open "wrist" ( the pistol grip part behind the trigger) I have always found the Remington 700 BDL and similar have a "tight" wrist ( short for my hand) Browning & tikka awfully tight. I love the Model 700s and their clones ( Bergara is a clone)...
If your rifle will shoot them into 1 1/2" or less, "perfection"! I've loaded the older Barnes 165x to 2800, killer load. I've loaded the newer 168 TSX to same speed, seen the 168TTSX/30-06 used on hog, again, perfect. We used the older Barnes 180xbt at 3050fps on Plains Game , wicked killer. At...
This rifle had to have spent its life in someone's gun safe! It appeared unfired when I got it. I put 20rds through it. Has new Limbsaver Recoil pad ( $100 value) prefessionally bedded/free floated/wood sealed (another $100 value) metal is beautiful blue and stock is the "Cavalier" style, very...
No problem Pard i said it was "pristine", thats as as good as "send me pictures and I'll maybe or never get back to you", ain't nobody got time for that, ha. RIFLE SOLD
HEADS UP GUYS!! Gotta move this baby, but if no bites by 4PM Mountain Time today, I'm having my smith swap out the factory trigger for the TT. I may lower the price even more, depend on the smith. Right now, still $550 plus S&H
