Before I even fired this rifle, I had it "skim bedded" over the factory pillar bedding job, equals greater accuracy. I have added a Trigger Tech Special (1-3# adj) and new Leupold STD 2pc bases. Less than 30rds through this rifle. I'm just "thinning the herd" since turning 70, ha. This rifle...
On elk, my first with 30-06 180 Hornady Lite Magnum ( going about like the old 300H&H did not get through the skin on far side. The pass through on the other three were:
375 H&H 300 Sierra BT (made a mess)
338WM with old Barnes 185 XLC (perfection just one aggravating bullet to find a load with...
Alot depends on your recoil tolerance ( or how much noise/muzzlebrake you can tolerate). If you handload, shucks, a stout 270 with Hammers/Barnes is wicked..."almost' like a 7 Mag. So, as they say, get closer. If you handload, again, you can teak a 338WM with Barnes 160 or 185, Hammer 213 HH...

I've owned/used 2 30-06 AIs. One was a 24" factory '06 set-back-reamed out. One was a 26" Shilen semi-custom. I never got blistering speed from anything in either. The "best" consistency I got was with the 26" rifle and the Sierra 200 SGK. It was very accurate too, but accuracy fell off at...
I've shot and used Barnes "X" since they first came out. The Blue Coated "XLC" are "slick as snot" and really need a LEE Factory Crimp Die to get a decent "bullet pull" upon ignition. otherwise, your velocity/accuracy gets wonky. In a 338 WM, I could never get enough powder in the case ( either...
Couple weeks ago, saw an AD, just gave the man his asking price: Older Mod 700 BDL Blue 24" bbl, 25-06 in a B&C Synthetic Stock (one of the nice ones!) w/Leupold VXII 3x9 and 6 boxes of new Remington 120gr factory loads..$800 :)
Well, 338 RCM IS rare, ha. I suggest 338/06 users chime in for me please? That 210 partition is Iconic in the Lower 48 anyhow. How do you like it and how fast do you use it?
I just set up a 22" barreled Mod 77 Hawkeye in 338 RCM, put a Vortex Razor HD 1.5x8 on it, Basix trigger. I am going to find an accurate ( yet stout) load with the 210 Partition. Anyone have any load data? I read where it is "similar" in capacity to the 338/06 (maybe the 338/06 Imp) any of those...
I bought an older T3 Lite in .243 awhile back. I had also bought some Nosler 70gr Varmeggedon ammo. It shoots them into .5-.70" easily. I don't know anything about a Youth Model in a Tikka, but the rifle itself is awesome! Good luck to you and have a ball with that boy!!
I've had great luck with two Bergara B14 Hunters in 300WM; and two Christensen Arms Mesas. I just got a SS Tikka Lite in 243 that is a tack driver, so thats gotta be a good option too. Love the 300 win Mag!!!
I agree zbull. I've used brakes with side ports for years, as long as folks stayed behind me and not "beside me/front of me", no issues. I always warned folks to stay away from me, don't crowd me! ha I also told every guide/outfitter that "if I want you to start shooting I'll tell you"! I never...
I bought the volume through the Outdoor Life Book club decades ago, ha. today, I'd go with the Browning BLR (laminate stock, cerakoted metal)in .358 win with 200 TSX. Leupold 1.5x5 or similar. I could "live" with it in .308. FA 97 5" .45 colt with a 270gr GCHC around 1000fps. Heck I could live...
