    Should I buy a .338?

I have tried out two Mod 77 Tangers, in 338WM. They must have been the early models that had one of those famous $17 barrels. Just could not get them under 2.5" with anything, mostly 3" groups. The MKII and for sure the Hawkeye, in my opinion, mind you, are both worthy upgrades. If you see a...

    Should I buy a .338?

I'm glad your 338 doesn't have a BOSS on it. The harmonics of the barrel change with weather and the amount of fouling it has. A Once a Year Hunter might get by just fine, but long gone Riflemen such as ourselves...we atr gonna shoot that thing, ha. When I got out of the Army on '73, only rifles...

    .308 Sierra 150 Pro Hunter

In 7mm, I have shot both the 160 SBT and 175 SBT, in Speer the 160 Hot Cor. I had a load in a 280 Ackley my friend used to kill a cow elk. Its a tough bullet.

    .308 Sierra 150 Pro Hunter

Those Federal factory 150 Pro Hunters shot about 1", well rounded three shot groups Perma. I took the Kimber 300WSM straight to my new Gunsmith (seems like a great young man, 3 man shop) for trigger adjustment and mounting my spare scope. They were already getting ready to rechamber my Mark V...

    Should I buy a .338?

Hey Cornbread, I used to have a friend (died a few months back) who dreamed of elk hunting, but hated recoil. I told him there are rifles that are big guns, and yet easy to shoot. He wasn't convinced. Since he was like a Brother to me and his boys were like Nephews, I made a plan. I was in a...

How long did it take for your first elk?

Bowhunted elk, 1979. Arrow deflected on unseen branch on a cow. (26yrs old) Next year bowhunt, no shots on spike & cow at 90yds. FF to moved to Utah 1990. All rifle hunts. Hunted Spike Only 92. Saw only cows. 1993 killed first cow on a CCW cow hunt. (40yrs old) 1997 killed 2nd cow, same place...

    .308 Sierra 150 Pro Hunter

That' what I thought would happen out of that 300WM MtE! But they acted like Bonded on those four deer I shot. Farthest one was 50yds, we were shooting them off of feeders. Fish in a barrel kind of thing, Rancher wanted the herd thinned out. We piled them up, almost all of us took four each, but...

    .308 Sierra 150 Pro Hunter

I would Don, this back around '97, but then and since I have seen the Sierra, Speer and NBTs Boattail's slip the core when pushed too fast. Back in the '70's you could buy 30-06 Red Box Federal loaded with their Sierra 165 SBT. It "might" have been going 2700, it was mild, but very accurate...

Camping Outside Designated Sites in Wilderness Area [RESOLVED]

Whether they "allow" you to camp IN a designated or OUT, there is benefit in talking with the Game Warden. He can give you "up to date " info on "bear activity", "flood warning", etc.

    .308 Sierra 150 Pro Hunter

Same here, when I started out Handloading, I considered the Sierra's, Speers, Hornady's all of them as "Premiums", ha And by golly, they were and are, still!

    .308 Sierra 150 Pro Hunter

I'm going to set up this new to me Kimber 8400 Classic 300WSM (found a good deal!) with this bullet for a deer/antelope/Exotics bullet. I would rather keep/use mono's for elk and similar. It may seem pretty light for a magnum, but I have a story. Over 20 yrs ago, I made a hunt with my Pastor...

    Off-season project - 7mm Rem Mag

I feel for you Lefties! Back in the Army, the Lefties sure put alot of hot brass down their own neck while the Righties were putting it down my neck, ha. Listen, Scripture says the Tribe of Benjamin were Left Handed, so no shame! Either learn to do it how Perma is doing or just "save your money"...

    Off-season project - 7mm Rem Mag

Your rifle's weight will make that Rem mag so much fun to shoot! My first 7mm RM was a Christmas gift from my wife, Mod 700 BDL and it kicked about like my old bolt action 30-06. Then I read about Mag Na Porting ( only magazines back then (1980, Al Gore had not invented the Internet yet) (eye...

    Off-season project - 7mm Rem Mag

I bet they will work swell in your new 7 Mag bud! May I suggest, you find a store that has many boxes of them with the same Lot#. Try a box and if they do well, go back and buy at least five boxes, more if you can afford them! :)

    Off-season project - 7mm Rem Mag

My Son in Law killed a nice 5x4 elk around 350yds (pass through) with that HSM ammo with the 168 Berger. Neither of us had ever shot the Bergers in anything, and he had bought this Tikka Lite 7mm RM from a fellow hunter as they go down into a hellhole of a canyon for elk.( I don't do that! ha)...

    Off-season project - 7mm Rem Mag

I've used alot of Timneys, Shilen, one Jewell, several Kepplinger Single Set Trigger, Rifle Basix, Traister, and so on. I will say this...when I tried Trigger Tech, my "Rifleman Life" changed! ha No creep, can get filles with crud and still work fine! Plus, you can adjust it through the trigger...
